Coventry City continued their unbeaten Championship start to the season with an emphatic win at the weekend over QPR.

The 7-1 victory celebrated the news that Coventry City had secured the ownership of the CBS Arena after 20 years of playing their games there, against the side they played their first match in the stadium against in 2005, QPR.

Frank Lampard’s side were electric, and despite this, after the game, he confirmed that the club would be looking to strengthen the team to be able to once again challenge for promotion.

The club have not competed in the Premier League since 2001, bringing an end to their 34 consecutive seasons in the English top flight, but there is a belief that they could soon return.

Coventry City will be expected to remain busy right up to the transfer window shutting, with those being linked away and others coming to the club; however, one who was expected to leave may now be remaining with the Sky Blues.

Milan Van Ewijk’s deal to VfL Wolfsburg has stalled

It had been believed that Milan Van Ewijk had been ready to depart Coventry City for Wolfsburg for a fee of around £10 million; however, this is now looking unlikely.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri on social media, the deal has stalled between the fullback and the German club.

Tavolieri has claimed that the deal was at final stages, but the parties were unable to agree on the last details, and so the move has stalled.

More worryingly for Van Ewijk and the transfer to the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg have opted to move forward with a deal for Saël Kumbedi from Lyon, who operates in the same position as the Coventry player.

While this may not be good news for Van Ewijk, Frank Lampard and Coventry City fans may be delighted that the deal has stalled despite the huge fee that was likely to be involved.

Van Ewijk is a vital part of Lampard’s team and would not be easy to replace, so having him remain with the squad in their push towards promotion is a positive.

Milan van Ewijk’s impact at Coventry City

The Dutch defender has impressed during his time at Coventry City, and this season has been no different in terms of his impact on the pitch for the Sky Blues.

While Coventry struggled in the opening game of the season as they drew 0-0 with Hull City, the side have pushed on in the last two Championship games.

Frank Lampard’s side have scored 12 goals in two games, with Van Ewijk playing a huge part in these two victories as he provided three assists.

Across the season last year he got two goals and three assists, and in the campaign before that had another two goals and five assists, demonstrating the impact he has on the side going forward.
