Unfortunately for Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town are poised to lose another one of their prized assets to Premier League suitors this summer.

After relegation from the top flight back to the Championship, the Tractor Boys and Kieran McKenna have endured a testing summer transfer window so far.

Earlier in the window, alongside second tier rivals, Ipswich missed out on Lawrence Shankland as the Scottish striker penned a new deal at Hearts after we revealed earlier in the summer that Ipswich and Southampton wanted Shankland.

Regarding outgoings, there have been several notable departures at Portman Road this summer, namely with Liam Delap joining Chelsea for a fee in the region of £30m.

Ipswich appear poised to lose another prized asset to top flight suitors this summer, but the latest development regarding their £35m ace has left him “disappointed” after the deal he wants has fallen through.

Brentford’s £35m deal for Ipswich Town ace Omari Hutchinson falls through

After losing Delap to Chelsea, Ipswich appear set to lose Omari Hutchinson to Premier League suitors at some point this summer.

EFL Analysis revealed earlier in the window that Ipswich expected Premier League bids for Hutchinson to come this summer after he shone at the Under-21 European Championships for England.

The 21-year-old attacker doubled England’s lead to 2-0 with his strike against Germany in the final, in which the Young Lions went on to win 3-2 after extra-time.

Hutchinson’s performances for Ipswich over the last two seasons have caught the eyes of several top flight suitors, which EFL Analysis understands to include Nottingham Forest, Everton, Brentford, and Fulham.

However, Brentford’s £35m bid, which met the release figure for Hutchinson, has fallen through.

Sky Sports News reporter Lyall Thomas said on X: “Brentford understood to have reached Omari Hutchinson’s £35m relegation clause in talks yesterday but agreement fell down on payment structure. Player understood to be disappointed and keen on the move.”

Kieran McKenna will be gutted to lose Omari Hutchinson at Ipswich Town

Hutchinson shone on loan at Ipswich from Chelsea in the 2023/24 season, in which he scored 10 goals and lodged five assists to help send McKenna’s side to the Premier League.

Last summer, Ipswich signed Hutchinson permanently for £20.3m on a five-year deal, in a move which sits second in Ipswich’s top five most expensive signings list.

After the English starlet returned permanently, McKenna told Ipswich’s website of Hutchinson: “Omari is someone we all enjoyed working with last season and the staff, his teammates and supporters all saw how he grew and developed over the course of the year, which is testament to the hard work he put in.

“The impact he had on the team throughout the season, especially in the latter part, was evidence of that and he, like so many of his teammates, played a significant part in that success for the Club.

“We think Omari is a fantastic player and person to have at the Club for the long-term future. He has a hunger to improve and show that he can compete and thrive in the Premier League.”

Although Hutchinson would fail to reach the goalscoring returns in the club’s ill-fated Premier League campaign, with just three top flight goals to his name last term, his ability and potential to develop even further will be a major loss to Ipswich and McKenna.
