Sunderland have already broken their transfer record, less than two weeks after securing their return to the Premier League, with Enzo Le Fee’s loan deal transformed into a permanent transfer.
For the first time since Didier Ndong arrived at the Stadium of Light back in 2016 – a disastrous piece of business which came to epitomise the Black Cats’ struggles in the transfer market during a miserable period on Wearside – there is a new name in the Sunderland history books.
Enzo Le Fee joined permanently from AS Roma in a £20 million deal a few days ago.
But after Ndong spent nearly a decade as Sunderland’s all-time record signing, Le Fee may only have a couple of weeks at the summit.
Regis Le Bris’ side have been linked with Joe Gomez of Liverpool and Wilfried Singo of Monaco. Two players who will reportedly cost in excess of £20 million.
Ivory Coast international Singo is an ambitious name on Sunderland’s summer wishlist. He made six appearances in the Champions League just last season, after all, and the Black Cats would have to convince the 24-year-old defender to turn his back on another shot at Europe’s elite club competition.
The similarly Sunderland-linked Christantus Uche, meanwhile, has a £21 million release clause in his Getafe contract.

Christantus Uche’s agent plays down Sunderland links with Getafe ace
Sunderland were linked this week alongside Aston Villa, Leeds, Wolves, Brentford, AFC Bournemouth and north east neighbours Newcastle United.
A highly-versatile footballer, the 6ft 3in midfielder was turned into a physical, throwback sort of centre-forward during the 2024/25 La Liga campaign by Getafe’s uncompromising head coach Jose Bordalas.
With four goals and six assists from his new attacking role, Uche proved to be a useful if far from prolific option in the number nine spot.
Given that Sunderland are set to lose Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund while also entering the market for a new striker, the towering Uche’s ability to play effectively in both positions likely explains why the Black Cats were named among his potential suitors.
Though when contacted by All Nigeria Soccer, Uche’s agent was quick to play down reports linking his client with a 25 million euro switch to the Stadium of Light.
“There is nothing in those stories,” Peter Ejiasi says. “Uche is a happy player at Getafe and is currently in Russia [with the Nigeria squad] fully committed to his national team duties.”
“We are calm. When the transfer window opens, you’ll hear a lot of news. Some fiction, some gossip. It’s still too early to say what [the future holds for Uche], even though [the speculation] is a good thing for the lad.
“It shows he is doing something right.”
Sunderland set to sell Jobe Bellingham amid Vladyslav Vanat links
Sunderland will, at least, have plenty of money to spend this summer even if Uche seems like a no-go at this stage.
Jobe Bellingham could replace Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as the club’s biggest-ever export. Bellingham is expected to get the number seven shirt at Borussia Dortmund, following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski.
In terms of potential striking reinforcements, the Black Cats are one of the clubs mentioned alongside Vladyslav Vanat although the Ukrainian has been urged to rebuff Sunderland’s advances.
