It’s been all change at MK Dons over the course of the last few months, and this summer is set to be an exciting one for supporters of the Buckinghamshire outfit.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing became Paul Warne’s first signing of the summer in May, as he left Derby County after three years to reunite with his former manager.

Warne was sacked by the Rams earlier this year after a poor run of form, which saw the Championship side lose seven successive matches in the league, and he is now getting his feet fully under the table after taking charge at Stadium MK.

The League One maestro had his first taste of League Two at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and he is now preparing for another arrival in MK1.

David McGoldrick set to be reunited with Paul Warne at MK Dons

David McGoldrick left Notts County last month following two seasons with his boyhood club, as the veteran striker rejected a new contract at Meadow Lane.

EFL Analysis understands McGoldrick will indeed join MK Dons on a free transfer this summer after departing the Magpies.

On the situation at MK Dons, our Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey said: “They’re not really dark horses, MK Dons; they’re going to be firmly one of the favourites to go and get promoted next season. I think Paul Warne’s a brilliant appointment as manager. MK Dons, I think they’ve been a bit unlucky with some of the appointments in the past, to be fair.

“Paul Warne could get MK Dons to the Championship, in my opinion, if they back him properly and stick with him. So yes, McGoldrick will be the second of a number of very astute signings this summer for them. The second of a few experienced, good signings by MK Dons.”

David McGoldrick has an excellent history with Paul Warne

It’s been two years since McGoldrick left Derby, as the Rams missed out on a play-off place in League One on the final day of the season.

However, it cannot be overstated just how good the striker was at Pride Park, scoring three hat-tricks in one campaign as his former side finished seventh in their first season after administration.

The likes of Tom Barkhuizen, who has now departed Derby, Mendez-Laing and McGoldrick all set the club up for success and it is clear to see that Warne is already looking to rebuild some of that squad at MK Dons as they pursue promotion from League Two.

The addition of McGoldrick is a huge statement of intent to the rest of the fourth tier, and there is no doubt that Warne’s side are one of the favourites for the title in 2025/26.
