League One Peterborough United are poised to land a free agent signing ahead of multiple League Two clubs.
Peterborough United finished 18th in League One last season, seven points safe from the relegation zone.
Peterborough have suffered in the summer window with a litany of high-profile departures, namely with Kwame Poku’s move to QPR and Emmanuel Fernandez joining Scottish giants Rangers.
However, the Posh have made several signings, including Declan Firth and former Sunderland goalkeeper Alex Bass, who has since suffered a long-term injury.
Now, Peterborough are poised to land an experienced League One free agent ahead of League Two rivals.

Peterborough United to sign Tom Lees after Huddersfield Town exit
Seasoned central defender Tom Lees was an important figure in the Huddersfield Town defence last season.
The 34-year-old featured 32 times in all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting another during the campaign.
Huddersfield finished tenth last term and have since appointed former Ipswich Town coach Lee Grant as head coach to spearhead the Terriers in the 2025/26 League One campaign.
Harrogate Town were previously heavily linked with a move for Lees, but the experienced defender is set to sign for Peterborough.
| Club name | Appearances |
| Accrington Stanley | 43 |
| Bury | 50 |
| Leeds United | 135 |
| Sheffield Wednesday | 274 |
| Huddersfield Town | 155 |
Reporter Alan Nixon said on Patreon: “Peterborough United are snapping up experienced centre half Tom Lees on a free.
“Lees is staying in League One after leaving Huddersfield where his last season was blighted by an injury.
“The respected defender had offers in League Two but held out and now Posh have come in for him.”
Lees featured 135 times for Leeds United and 274 times for Sheffield Wednesday before his move to Huddersfield in 2021, where he went on to feature 155 times.

Tom Lees will need to make instant impact at Peterborough United
Peterborough have made a disappointing start to the 2025/26 League One campaign with two defeats from their opening two games under Darren Ferguson.
The Posh were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City last weekend, and fell to a 2-0 loss on Saturday to Luton Town, scoring only one goal and conceding four against the recently relegated duo.
Following suggestions on social media from Peterborough fans that the Posh are destined for a League One relegation battle, manager Ferguson hit back at the naysayers.
As quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph, Ferguson said: “I don’t do social media, but I’ve heard we are not a very good team and we are going to be in a relegation fight.
“I will ignore that, and I will stay positive. I believe we have the players and the quality to do well, although we clearly haven’t seen enough of the latter in the first two games.”
Therefore, the experience of EFL veteran Lees will be imperative to help Peterborough get their first win of the season and silence the early relegation fears from the Posh supporters.
