Plymouth Argyle fans all seem to agree as record signing joins Stoke City, it’s a ‘strange transfer’

Maksym Talovierov has left Plymouth Argyle after just six months at Home Park.

It emerged earlier in the week that Stoke City were interested in the Ukrainian centre-back, and ‘Maxi’ broke his silence soon after the Potters closed in on a move for the 25-year-old.

He only joined the Pilgrims in the January transfer window, making his way to Devon as the club’s record signing. But just as quickly as he was signed by the Greens, he is off again.

A desire to feature for his national team will have played a big part in his decision to depart. Now, Plymouth supporters have taken to social media following the confirmation of his transfer to the bet365 Stadium.

Talovierov has signed a three-year deal with Stoke and he will get his second crack at the Championship, avoiding League One following Argyle’s relegation.

It’s a move that few saw coming a couple of weeks ago, but it may not be too much of a surprise to see the defender back in the second tier and his former fans have responded to his departure.

A second Plymouth supporter wrote: “The reality of relegation. All our best players are off on their trotters. It’s going to be a long season. Thanks again for appointing Rooney.”

Another put: “I think he could have got a better transfer than that, but at least we have got our money back. Wish Maxi all the best at Stoke and thanks for the memorable moments!”

A fifth Argyle fan said: “I fear you made the wrong choice in your next club. Maxi… ends well for so few in that place.”

While a sixth wrote: “Getting a sell on clause and recouping the money is actually a really decent result considering. Cheerio Maxi.”

Tom Cleverley has work to do at Home Park

After losing Talovierov, Tom Cleverley knows he has to find a replacement quickly and that could be tough in League One.

However, a substantial fee looks to have been brought in by the sale of the defender and this must be used wisely by Plymouth.

Relegation was always going to bring issues around player loyalty, and Talovierov had already alluded to leaving. Nevertheless, with a quality head coach at Home Park in the form of Cleverley, this issue can be worked around.
