Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers have different ambitions this campaign; however, they agreed they needed to bring in a top-flight star to achieve them.

Bolton Wanderers are setting their sights on achieving promotion this campaign; the potential in the squad and the possibility of doing this were the reasons Steven Schumacher took the role at the club.

Meanwhile, Preston North End will be hopeful they can ensure their Championship status for next season, with many expecting the club to be battling at the bottom end of the division.

Both sides were looking to bring in a top-flight striker to help them achieve their ambitions by scoring goals at the top end of the pitch, a player with European experience.

Johnny Kenny signs contract extension at Celtic

Preston and Bolton were chasing Kenny earlier in the summer on permanent deals; however, Celtic did not want to lose the promising striker permanently.

Kenny did not appear to have any desire to leave the Scottish champions this summer, as he wished to battle for a starting place in the Celtic team.

While all hope is not lost regarding a deal, with there still being a loan possibility, the decision to sign a contract extension with Celtic has stopped any permanent deal this summer.

Kenny has already made inroads to becoming a key player in Brendan Rodgers’ team this season, having already made an appearance in their opening day victory against St Mirren.

Brendan Rodgers’ view on Johnny Kenny’s extension

The Celtic manager is incredibly pleased that the Irish striker has pledged his future to the Scottish side.

It appears Kenny will not be leaving Celtic anytime soon, should things go to plan, be that permanently or on loan, as he signed a deal until 2029.

Rodgers said: “I am really pleased that we have agreed this new contract with Johnny. He is a young player who I believe can have a big future with Celtic.

“He loves the club and is really hungry and focused on doing well for us, developing further and making an important contribution to the squad, so we look forward to working with him moving forward.”
