EFL Analysis can now share an update on Sheffield United’s transfer plans for the remainder of the transfer window.

With less than a month of the transfer window remaining, one expert believes Sheffield United have ‘serious work to do’ in the market.

The Blades have so far added five players to their squad this summer, including signing Louie Barry from Aston Villa.

Sheffield United finished third in the Championship last term and, after play-off final disappointment, parted ways with Chris Wilder and appointed Ruben Selles, who is not happy with his current squad, we have learned.

Sheffield United transfer update

The Yorkshire outfit were hammered 4-1 by Bristol City on the opening weekend of the season, before losing to Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.

Now, EFL Analysis has spoken to our transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, about Sheffield United and what they want to do in the remainder of the window.

Bailey told us: “He’s [Selles] not happy with the squad. He wants defenders, definitely.”

In terms of who Sheffield United could bring in, Bailey mentioned former Sunderland man Chris Mepham, who featured in the play-off final in May, as an option.

He continued: “They’re looking at the likes of Seol Young-woo at Red Star, who has interest in Germany, as well as players like Chris Mepham and Ben Godfrey.

“It would not surprise me at all to see someone like that come in. They’ll get one or two in this window, mainly in defence and especially centrally.”

What Ruben Selles has said about transfers

Sheffield United will now face Swansea City in a Championship fixture on Saturday.

Ahead of the tie, as per The Star, Selles has given his thoughts on the Blades’ recruitment so far this summer.

He said: “I think our process has not been good enough; that I think is obvious.

“In the beginning, we talked about reinforcement with three players and now, with Kieffer and Anel gone, that is five.

“We have not been able to bring anyone in for different circumstances, and everyone has part of that [blame]. I will accept my part of it but everyone [is] part of the process. There’s not going to be any update for the weekend.”
