Sergej Jakirovic’s dream Hull City striker once made European history, he knows how to get the best out of him

Sergej Jakirovic is operating with tight restrictions at Hull City but it’s still not stopping him from being ambitious.

Hull are having to operate in the market with a different strategy after the Tigers were hit with a three-window embargo where they will be prohibited from paying any fee for players, both permanently and on loan.

Acun Ilicali has received criticism over his handling of the club after it emerged that the club owe money to several sides, including Sheffield Wednesday for the sale of Mallik Wilks in 2022.

Despite this, Jakirovic has his eye on one former striker he used to work with and even won the Croatian First Division title.

Matija Frigan once made history as Sergei Jakirovic eyes reunion

Hull could still sign Matija Frigan on loan despite the restrictions placed on the club.

A fresh update from Hull Live has confirmed that the Tigers are actively pursuing a deal to bring Frigan to the KCOM stadium, however, Westerlo chiefs are determined to keep their talisman.

The striker worked with Jakirovic at Rijeka but it was before the current Hull boss’ time when he made history with the club.

Frigan holds the record for being the club’s youngest player to play in a European match when he came on against Napoli on 26 November 2020 in a Europa League game.

Matija Frigan was a bagsman under Sergej Jakirovic

In the nine months they had together, Jakirovic managed to get the best out of Frigan as he bagged 15 goals in 32 games before making his move to Belgium.

Some of those goals were genuine goal of the season contenders too as the forward displayed a wide range of finishing ability for Rijeka.

His move to Westerlo has seen him continue that form, scoring 14 times in all competitions last season and it seems the 22-year-old is keen to reunite under the man that kickstarted his career.
