Southampton have been one of the busier clubs in the transfer window this summer.

Will Still has been busy assembling a squad capable of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Still has also had to cope with losing some key players, with Tyler Dibling departing for Everton and Brazilian attacking midfielder Mateus Fernandes signing for West Ham United.

Replacements for the duo have been found and another target has been identified, however, with competition from other clubs, the Saints have found out if they have done enough to bring their latest target to St Mary’s Stadium.

Leo Scienza decides between Southampton and Paris FC

Reports earlier in the window claimed that Leo Scienza of Heidenheim was wanted by Southampton.

The attacking midfielder was identified as one of the candidates to fill the void left by Dibling and Fernandes but at the eleventh hour, they have been pipped to the post by Paris FC.

Sacha Tavolieri dropped the news that the French outfit had proposed an offer in the region of £12m and although Scienza initially favoured the idea of signing for the Championship, the idea of living in Paris appeals to his family.

Who is Southampton transfer target Leo Scienza?

Leonardo “Leo” Weschenfelder Scienza is an attacking midfielder currently playing for Bundesliga side Heidenheim.

He is of Brazilian-Luxembourgian heritage but is unable to represent Luxembourg at international level having not lived in Luxembourg for five years.

Scienza has played for Schalke and Magdeburg but it’s at Heidenheim where he has made his name.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored a last minute winner against Elversberg in the Bundesliga relegation/promotion play-offs to preserve their top flight status.
