Watford got off the mark in the Championship on Saturday afternoon with an excellent 2-1 win over QPR at Vicarage Road.
Luca Kjerrumgaard scored twice for the Hornets on his home league debut, with Kieran Morgan smashing in a goal of the season contender for the R’s to halve the deficit before half-time.
Nevertheless, Paulo Pezzolano’s side were able to hold onto their lead and they took all three points following an opening day defeat to Charlton Athletic a week ago.
However, there is now a fresh problem for Watford to contend with, and once again it involves one of their key stars being linked with a move away from Hertfordshire. This time, it’s Valencia who are registering an interest.

Valencia pursue deal for Watford winger Giorgi Chakvetadze
Giorgi Chakvetadze has not featured so far this season for the Hornets, with the winger suffering from a bone injury. He is expected to return to action in September, but at this point it may not be in the Championship.

That’s because Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Spanish outfit Valencia are interested in bringing the Georgia international to the Mestalla Stadium this summer.
Contact has been made between the two clubs, with Tavolieri stating that the personal financial demands of the player can be met by Los Che before the transfer window comes to a close on 1 September at 7pm.
Chakvetadze scored two goals and registered six assists in the Championship last season for Watford in 39 appearances as his side finished 14th.

Tom Cleverley was a huge fan of Giorgi Chakvetadze at Vicarage Road
Tom Cleverley was sacked by Watford in May, despite keeping the team away from any relegation battle throughout the season.
Nonetheless, Chakvetadze signed a new contract with the Hornets while the current Plymouth Argyle boss was in charge of the Hornets, and the change in management over the course of the summer may influence the winger’s future.

Carlos Coberan, the former West Brom manager, is the head coach of Valencia, and is likely to know all about the Georgian ace. However, Cleverley may be a little bit gutted to see a potential move come off, as he saw Chakvetadze as a key player for Watford back in 2024.
When the 25-year-old penned a new deal last September, Cleverley said (via: watfordfc.com): “He’s a fantastic example for our younger players on how focusing on what’s really important in your life – if you truly want to make it as a professional – matters.
“He’s quiet but so determined, leading by example with his professionalism and his passion for improving as a footballer and helping to bring success to our club. Let’s hope he can be a big part of our future and that success we all want.”
