Hull City’s draw against Coventry City saw a positive defensive performance by Sergej Jakirovic’s side, and Tigers full-back Cody Drameh stood out for one particular reason.

The 2025/26 Championship season has finally got underway, and Hull City have started it with a draw on their travels against Coventry City.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry City were pushing the Tigers throughout the contest, but Hull City stayed defensively vigilant, going on to earn a valuable point on the road.

There were many expectations of Coventry City to deliver a win against a Hull City side that was troubled last season, but the Tigers proved many wrong by avoiding defeat.

In terms of individuals for Hull City, each of the defenders were singled out for praise, including Cody Drameh, who showed incredible quality throughout the tie.

What Hull City fans said about Cody Drameh

As Hull City notched a clean sheet in their opening game of the Championship campaign, many singled out Cody Drameh for his particularly impressive performance.

The Tigers’ full-back was in-and-out of the Hull City side last season, often playing second-fiddle to club captain Lewie Coyle, but amid injury issues for the Hull-born regular, Drameh was given the opportunity from the off.

Reacting on social media, one Hull fan said that Drameh, as well as Tigers left-back Ryan Giles, had ‘been brilliant today’.

Another supporter said: “Drameh [is] having a good game. Great challenge, interception and clearance in the final 5 mins.”

Hull fans also believed that Drameh offered more than Coyle may have, as one said ‘Drameh is miles ahead of Coyle, let’s be honest’.

Another supporter said: “After this game alone I can’t see Coyle starting any time soon. Yes he’s injured, but Drameh is just a better defender.”

Sergej Jakirovic will be left with one difficult decision when Lewie Coyle returns

Hull City fans will be very happy after picking up a point at the CBS Arena, and ultimately, the defence are to thank for such a positive performance.

Cody Drameh, in particular, was sound defensively, and such a showing will eventually give Sergej Jakirovic the selection headache on whether he will be dropped for Lewie Coyle or not.

As club captain, it would be expected that Coyle would command a spot in the Hull starting line; however, Drameh would surely be undroppable after such a performance, especially if he can keep it up in upcoming clashes away at Wrexham and against Oxford United at the MKM Stadium.
