Leicester City legend was livid with Foxes display vs Charlton, it was ‘mistake after mistake’ for Cifuentes

Despite notching a crucial win against Charlton Athletic, one former Leicester City man was far from happy with Marti Cifuentes’ side.

Leicester City have notched their second win of the season against Charlton Athletic, as the Foxes respond to last weekend’s crushing defeat against Preston North End.

It was far from pretty by the Foxes, but they got the job done courtesy of a brilliant strike by Leicester City star Abdul Fatawu.

Leicester City found themselves up against the cosh by Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic, but they managed to withstand the pressure to get back to winning ways on their travels.

After what could be a crucial three points for the Foxes, one former Leicester City star was not too fond of the performance, especially in the dying embers as he spotted ‘mistake after mistake’ by Marti Cifuentes’ side.

Leicester City legend David Nugent slams performance vs Charlton Athletic

The Foxes notched a win on away soil, but they made it tricky against a vigilant Charlton Athletic side.

Marti Cifuentes’ side were arguably fortunate to come away with all three points after the Addicks had a goal disallowed, which was followed by a moment of pinball in the box which could have seen the Leicester net ripple.

As Leicester City held on to their win, former Foxes forward David Nugent was far from happy with what he was seeing.

On BBC co-commentary duty, Nugent said: “It’s mistake after mistake for Leicester.

“Every set-piece is exactly the same for Charlton, every single time they’ve managed to make contact.”

However, Nugent was complimentary for the moment of brilliance in the game, praising Abdul Fatawu after his winner.

“It looked like the shot wasn’t on but he just took that step to the left to get the space,” said Nugent. “It hits the side netting and the keeper had no chance of saving it, it’s a great finish.”

Marti Cifuentes needs Leicester to become more regimented

Leicester City escaped with all three points in what was a hit-and-run showing by the Foxes, and whilst they managed to keep a necessary clean sheet, it would have likely been a different story against a more clinical Championship outfit.

At times, Leicester looked disorganised and could have easily suffered a late blow against Charlton if it were not for luck being on their side.

After the huge let-off against Charlton Athletic, Marti Cifuentes will be hoping that his defence can tighten up at the crucial moments. The Spaniard should take it as a warning for upcoming games and prioritise making his backline more regimented, something that will hold his side in good stead for the future.
