Sheffield United branded as ‘chaotic’ as BBC pundit questions the future of Ruben Selles

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles’ future continues to be in doubt as the Blades suffered a fifth successive defeat in the Championship.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Sheffield United, who continue their stay at the foot of the Championship table after a fifth loss in a row.

The pressure was on Ruben Selles to turn around the dire start to the campaign, but the 5-0 defeat to Ipswich Town has led to further scrutiny of the Spaniard.

Jaden Philogene was the shining light for Ipswich Town, but his ease in causing a threat on the left flank only reflected negatively on the Blades’ defence.

Following the contest, one BBC pundit was left in disbelief at Sheffield United’s capitulation, with their finger once again pointing towards Selles for answers.

Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles’ future will be questioned as BBC pundit delivers verdict

Via the BBC live feed, Radio Sheffield commentator Andy Giddings gave his honest thoughts on the Blades after Jack Clarke rushed through to make it 5-0 to Ipswich Town.

The dire result and performance was reflected on by Giddings, who said: “This is just awful. It’s a chaotic mess. Sheffield United have been thoroughly, utterly and comprehensively beaten.

“Fans will be questioning everything, including the future of Ruben Selles.”

Sheffield United never looked like finding the back of the net throughout the game, and one of the questions that Selles will face is the decision to drop Gus Hamer to the bench, which, in hindsight, was a catastrophic error on his part.

It feels as though the jury is out after just five Championship games for Selles, with such a hammering not boding well as he surely fears his future at the club.

Sheffield United’s downfall vs Ipswich Town comes down to a lack of belief

There is no questioning the ability that Sheffield United have within their ranks. Players have moved on from their solid 2024/25 Championship outfit, but many still remain who were pivotal during the tenure of Chris Wilder.

While the quality is there, one thing that is non-existent is the belief and commitment to fight on the pitch, with Sheffield United immediately dropping their heads once they fell behind to Ipswich Town.

It feels as though, just five games into the Championship season, Ruben Selles has already lost the dressing room. He has no players who are willing to leave everything out on the pitch for him, and once you get past that point, it makes it very difficult for the manager to start the repairs needed.
