Against all the odds, Sheffield Wednesday will fulfil their opening day fixture against Leicester City.
Barry Bannan confirmed Wednesday’s players won’t go on strike against Leicester when they travel to the King Power Stadium.
It’s hard to imagine how the Owls will line up against the Foxes, but there aren’t many tipping them to win on the opening day.
Their hopes of picking up a shock victory haven’t been given any favours either by the referee appointment.

Sadly for Wednesday, they have only won two (3-1 vs Wycombe Wanderers in 2022 and 1-0 vs Derby County in 2021) of the nine times they have had Donohue as the referee.
Their most painful loss was in the League One play-off semi-finals back in May 2022 when they were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Who is Matt Donohue?
Donohue first began officiating as a 14-year-old before joining the EFL list of assistant referees in 2014.
He lasted for two years before choosing to swap the flag for the whistle, becoming a referee in 2016, starting out in the National League before being promoted back to the Football League’s list in 2018.
Stints in League Two and League One followed, as Donohue continued to catch the eye, officiating the League One play-off final in 2022.
Last season, Donohue took charge of his first two Premier League games and has regularly worked on the VAR for top flight fixtures.
