Sunderland and EFL fans blown away by Eliezer Mayenda, he is ‘Spain’s future number nine’

Sunderland have reached the play off-final after defeating Coventry City on aggregate on Tuesday night, and Eliezer Mayenda was the standout star.

The Black Cats tried to gain the upper hand by moving the advertising boards at the Stadium of Light to make the pitch shorter in order to protect their 2-1 win against Coventry in the first leg.

Despite Frank Lampard’s side’s best attempts to turn the game on its head and return to Wembley Stadium for the second time in three seasons, Ephron Mason-Clark’s normal time effort took it to extra time but in the dying moments of second half stoppage time, Sunderland claimed victory as Dan Ballard’s last-minute header.

It’s Sunderland who will be in the Championship play-off final, where they will face Sheffield United after they beat Bristol City.

Mayenda was instrumental in anything good for Sunderland on Wearside and everyone watching on were in overwhelming agreement.

Eliezer Mayenda impresses Sunderland and EFL fans

After Mayenda was questioned by Sunderland fans for his misplaced passing in the first leg, the young forward looked at home.

Wilson Isidor’s early yellow card for diving meant that the burden weighed on the 20 year old to step up and although he failed to get on the scoresheet, the forward is being tipped for a big future.

@ArqBCFC even went as far as to suggest that “Mayenda is unreal,” and “has potential to be Spain’s future number nine”.

@JacobHorsfall_ claimed that he would be destined for the Premier League – even if Sunderland didn’t achieve promotion – adding: “If Sunderland stay down, a Premier League club should 1000% take a gamble on Mayenda.”

Meanwhile, @WWFC_Bren wrote: “Mayenda for Sunderland is the next big thing. Blokes going to the very top.”

@OllyGill_ said: “Eliezer Mayenda is a terrific player.”

It was by no means a vintage performance from Mayenda but his constant hassling of the Coventry defenders and never-say-die attitude is what helped the Black Cats get over the finish line.

He played the full 90 minutes in a gruelling tie on the legs and even lasted for the duration of extra time.
