West Brom travelled to Wales to take on Wrexham in the Championship, with this being the first game in 43 years at the Racecourse in the second tier.
It was always going to be a historic game as it was the first fixture between the two clubs in the league ever, with their only other game coming 95 years ago in the FA Cup.
Wrexham were the victors in 1930; however, it would prove to be a motivation for West Brom to go all the way to lift the 1931 FA Cup.
The historic game between Wrexham and West Brom would be shown on two separate broadcasters in the UK, with Sky Sports and ITV showing the match, after their respective TV deals.
However, the West Brom fans all seemed to have the same opinion on the coverage of the game, ahead of kick-off.
West Brom fans react to ITV coverage
Fans of the Baggies all appeared to be in agreement about the coverage of ITV for their away game to Wrexham, with West Brom supporters being frustrated about the lack of coverage their club received.
While it is understandable that ITV would put more emphasis on Wrexham for the fixture due to the historic moment for the club, there needs to be a proportional balance struck with coverage of West Brom, something Baggies fans don’t believe ITV achieved.
One fan wrote on social media: “Still waiting for ITV to talk about something other than Wrexham.”
Another fan shared this sentiment as they said: “This coverage is next level insufferable.”
While another added: “Sorry ITV who are Wrexham playing…don’t think you’ve mentioned us all that much?!”
One fan shared their tactics for how West Brom fans could perfectly watch the game but not have to hear about Wrexham constantly.
They said: “Me turning off the TV until 12:29pm to avoid watching Sky Sports and ITV massaging Wrexham for an hour.”
While one fan didn’t enjoy the narrative around the fixture, as they said: “Just popped ITV 1 on… I see they’re behaving like this is Real Madrid vs West Brom… marvellous.”
ITV’s EFL deal
A total of 20 matches will be broadcast by ITV in the 2025/26 season, made up of 10 Carabao Cup ties and 10 EFL selections.
The broadcaster announced its first six fixtures that it would be broadcasting on free-to-air TV, with Wrexham against West Brom being the second.
West Brom fans may or may not be pleased that they have not been named again in these opening matches, due to their complaints on the coverage today.
The next three fixtures that will be shown are all Championship derbies, as they prepare to show Sheffield Wednesday against Sheffield United, the Portsmouth fixture against Southampton and then the East Anglian rivals.
