West Brom ensured it was not a happy return to the second tier for the Racecourse, as they secured a 3-2 victory over Wrexham in the Championship.
A brace from Isaac Price and one from Jed Wallace proved to be enough to see out the hosts, as Lewis O’Brien and Sam Smith’s goals were not enough for Wrexham.
The opening of proceedings of the game could be likened to a chess match, as both sides attempted to size each other up, with little to no action in the first 15 minutes.
A Tom Fellows volley over the bar from close range saw a rise in tempo in the match, with both Wrexham and West Brom having now found their feet in the game.

West Brom would make it 1-0 through Isaac Price only a matter of moments after this as he expertly tucked in a cross first time from Fellows, hitting the ball across the goal and into the far corner.
The Baggies would control proceedings throughout the rest of the first half until the final few minutes of the half, as Wrexham seemed to find another gear.
This change in tempo would bring reward for Wrexham, as they made it 1-1 in the 42nd minute after a poor piece of control from James McClean dropped to Lewis O’Brien, who struck the ball with his effort bouncing up off the turf into the top corner of the West Brom goal.
Wrexham almost got an excellent start in the second half as Kieffer Moore won the ball from George Campbell, putting a cross into the area that was placed just wide of the post.
The second half would continue to see the two sides attempt to create chances with little to no luck for either, neither manager looking to change things; however, substitutes would have the desired impact for West Brom.
Moments after introducing the pair of Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace, they would combine to make it 2-1 as the Irish international played it to the veteran, as Wallace fired the ball past Danny Ward’s near post to make it 2-1 in the 72nd minute.
West Brom confirmed the result late on with Price popping up to score his second as he headed home a cross from the edge of the area to make it 3-1.
There was late drama as Wrexham scored their second of the game through Sam Smith, but there was simply no time to launch an attack for an equaliser as he scored with seconds remaining to make it 3-2.
West Brom player ratings from Championship away fixture to Wrexham
Josh Griffiths – 6
There was not too much asked of the goalkeeper, with him not able to do anything about the goal he conceded. A reliable pair of hands in goal once again.
Darnell Furlong – 6
Was solid at the back throughout the game and was able to move forward to support the attack at times; a good performance for the full-back but will be disappointed with his defending for the second Wrexham goal.
Nat Phillips – 7
Again led the team from the back; while he may have been slightly at fault for the Wrexham goal for not pressing Kieffer Moore out wide, he was solid at the back throughout and a danger in the opposition penalty area.
George Campbell – 6
He looked solid beside Phillips at the heart of defence, and while there was one moment of doubt, he demonstrated why he was brought in this summer from America.
Callum Styles – 6
Similar to his fellow full-back, Styles proved to be reliable at the back, doing his defensive duties, and when called upon, attempted to support the attack.
Jayson Molumby – 6
Another performance where he demonstrated exactly why he is a fan favourite through his work ethic and ability to run himself into the ground for the team.
Alex Mowatt – 6
A steady head in the middle of the pitch who was able to control and dictate possession at times for West Brom, while his partner did most of the running.
Tom Fellows – 7
The youthful winger was always a threat throughout the game, without too much reward, as James McClean seemed to deal with him for most of the game, except for one telling moment when Fellows provided the assist for Price’s opener.
Isaac Price – 9
Once again popped up with two goals as he grabbed the opener and the third; however, he was kept quiet at times by the Wrexham defence. Ryan Mason won’t care, as he proved once again what he can do simply in a moment.
Karlan Grant – 6
Always looked like he could cause a problem for Wrexham when he had the ball; however, he was unable to turn that threat into anything of significance for West Brom in his steady outing.
Aune Heggebo – 7
The striker proved to be a vital player for West Brom, as he held play up expertly and brought players into the game at just the right time and led the line perfectly.
Substitutes galore for West Brom
Jed Wallace – 7
Scored a decisive goal moments after entering the action and brought a calm head to proceedings for the final 20 minutes; excellent after entering the action.
Mikey Johnston – 7
Similar to Wallace, his introduction changed things for West Brom, as he brought an injection of energy to the side, providing an assist for their second.
Ousmane Diakité – N/A
Toby Collyer – N/A
