West Brom’s Isaac Price explains the secret behind how they can ‘get top 6’ Championship finish

West Brom are a club with huge expectations this season, with the Baggies hopeful they can achieve promotion.

The Baggies were last in the Premier League in 2021 but suffered relegation and have not been able to achieve a return despite coming close to the play-offs on several occasions.

However, there appears to be a buzz around the club about a potential return under new manager Ryan Mason.

West Brom have been clever in the transfer market; despite losing Torbjorn Heggem to Bologna for £10 million, they were quick in bringing in Krystian Bielik as a replacement from Birmingham City.

The addition of Nat Phillips to the team seems ingenious after he inspired the club to an opening-day victory over Blackburn Rovers, and the feeling this has given the club towards their ambition has been echoed by Isaac Price.

Isaac Price believes the quality in the team is the secret to promotion

The Northern Irish international spoke to Sky Sports ahead of West Brom’s trip to Wrexham, and he believed that the reason they can mount a promotion push is due to their squad and manager, Ryan Mason.

He said: “I think if you look at the squad we have got, we’ve got some good players. I think it is the aim every year, but especially this year, we want to go and get top six.

“I think the gaffer has given me a lot of freedom since I’ve joined. I think his ideas are clear; since he has come in, he has watched a lot of the games which I’ve played for Northern Ireland, and that has helped.

“He has seen me as a number 10, and that is the role I’ve really had, and the freedom that I’ve had gives me confidence.”

Ryan Mason in agreement with Isaac Price

While Price views Mason as a significant contributing factor to the feeling around West Brom for their Championship campaign and achieving their aims.

Mason wants his side to concentrate on their game, believing this will bring them success this season, with this being the message against Wrexham, as he spoke with club media.

He said: “We understand that there will be lots of energy generated within the stadium on Saturday, but the way to affect that is through our own performance and imposing ourselves on the game. That’s something we’re certainly going to try to do.

“Any game in the Championship is tough, and you have to earn a win. We respect them, but we need to go there with the intent to impose ourselves on the game.

“We had a good start last weekend, beating Blackburn 1-0 at home. There were some really promising signs in that fixture, and we want to build on that this weekend and hopefully come away with another three points.”
