Viktor Gyokeres has shown he still has a place for Coventry City in his heart after pulling off a kind gesture for one of his former Sky Blues teammates.

The Swedish striker was a huge hit at the CBS Arena after he joined from Brighton in 2021, initially on loan before signing permanently that summer. He scored a whopping 43 goals in 116 games for them, as well as providing 17 assists.

Gyokeres earned a move to Sporting Lisbon in 2023 for a club record fee of £20million, plus £4million in bonuses. Arsenal came calling this summer, and Gyokeres is now back in England with the Gunners.

However, a photo from Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday shows the 27-year-old hasn’t forgotten his Coventry roots now he’s playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Victor Gyokeres invites former Coventry City striker Matty Godden to Arsenal against Manchester City

A photo posted on X on Sunday shows Gyokeres and his former Cov teammate Matty Godden smiling together in a corporate box at the Emirates.

Gyokeres started up front for the Gunners in the clash, and appears to have invited his former fellow striker to the clash.

Charlton Athletic talisman Godden is currently sidelined with an injury after having an operation on his knee over the summer. He left Coventry for the Addicks in 2024.

Sky Blues fans have fond memories of both players, who featured in the Championship play-off final against Luton Town in 2023.

How Victor Gyokeres feels about his time at Coventry City

Speaking to Sky Sports before Arsenal’s clash with Man City, the former Brighton striker was asked how he reflects on his time with Coventry.

“When I signed there permanently in the summer that’s where it really changed me,” he said. “When I went there and signed there, it just felt different from the start.

“I felt that I was going to show what I can do on the pitch, because I really didn’t do that on loan and then I think from that day I think I showed that during the two seasons.”
