Birmingham City have been forced to call off an event celebrating Lukas Jutkiewicz following his retirement from football.
The Blues are back in the Championship after being promoted from League One with a record-breaking points total of 111, and Jutkiewicz contributed to that promotion, making 16 league appearances.
The centre-forward has been on Birmingham’s rollercoaster ride with the fans since signing in 2016, playing under 12 permanent managers, witnessing stadium issues, being relegated from the Championship, being taken over by NFL legend Tom Brady and co. and finally, winning promotion.
36-year-old Jutkiewicz has earned legendary status at Birmingham and certainly ended his career on a high, hanging his boots up at the end of last term with a League One champion medal in hand. However, the club have been unable to honour his contribution to the club in the way they would have liked.

Lukas Jutkiewicz’s Q&A event at St Andrew’s to honour his retirement cancelled
In August, Birmingham announced ‘An Evening For Jukey’, selling tickets for an event in Knighthead Fan Park at St Andrew’s. The evening was planned to involve a live DJ, exclusive video content and a Q&A with Jutkiewicz, who was the club’s top scorer in 2016/17, 2019/20 and 2020/21.
However, on Tuesday, Birmingham announced the event had been cancelled.
Writing on X, the Blues’ Supporter Updates account said: “Supporters should note that our ‘Evening For Jukey’ event, scheduled for this Thursday, has now been cancelled. Those supporters who had purchased tickets will be contacted directly, if they haven’t already, regarding refunds.”
Some Bluenoses think the club approached the event in the wrong way, inevitably leading to its cancellation.
Birmingham City fans think prices for Lukas Jutkiewicz event were too high
Tickets prices for the event were listed as £36 for an adult, while it would have cost children aged 15 and under £20 for entry.
Responding to the news of the cancellation of the event for the club’s cult hero, supporters expressed their disappointment at the event pricing.
“Would have loved to go, but [nearly] £40, not a chance,” one fan wrote. “Massive shame but they got this totally wrong. Could have arranged something for half term week or International break and £15 tops.”
A second said: “It was a nice idea but imo they got the pricing for this all wrong and having it on a school night was always gonna make it more difficult for people.”
“I see tickets for the Jukey event are no longer on sale. Hugely unrealistic pricing strategy. Lessons to be learned. Don’t kill the goose that lays the golden eggs,” a third added.
A fourth agreed, writing: “Needed to be a proper celebration of his career, indoors with food and a meet and greet really. To expect people to come and sit out in the cold midweek for £36 in the hope that you’d also spend even more on food and drink is really poor from the club.”
Jutkiewicz made 356 appearances for Birmingham and is now First Team Positional Lead Scout.
