Birmingham City are in the midst of a sensational season that is all-but guaranteed to end in promotion.
Birmingham City suffered relegation from the Championship in 2023/24, seeing Tom Brady make a promise to fans that they would achieve great things.
Less than 12 months later, Brady’s promise is coming true, with the Midlands outfit now on course to win promotion from League One and play out the EFL Trophy final at Wembley.
The Blues have fended off competition from the likes of Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers to completely dominate the third tier.
At present, they sit top of the league with a 12-point lead as well as a game in hand on their rivals.
| 1st | Birmingham City | 36 | 25 | 8 | 3 | 59 | 24 | 35 | 83 |
| 2nd | Wycombe Wanderers | 37 | 20 | 11 | 6 | 64 | 36 | 28 | 71 |
| 3rd | Wrexham | 37 | 21 | 8 | 8 | 51 | 30 | 21 | 71 |
It has been a remarkable season for Birmingham so far and come May, they could well have ended a 14-year record.

Birmingham City can break a third League One record in 2024/25
The season had barely begun when Brady’s club broke their first League One record of 2024/25.
On August 30th, 2024, Birmingham signed Jay Stansfield from Fulham for a fee reported to be above the £10m mark by BBC Sport.
That price tag completely smashed the previous League One transfer record, which BBC said was around £4m paid out by Sunderland to sign Will Grigg from Wigan Athletic.
More recently, Birmingham broke a Plymouth Argyle record for the most points in the third tier after 32 games.
The third League One record the league leaders could end up breaking this season has stood for 14 years but right now, Birmingham have a chance to completely smash it.
With 30 points still up for grabs, Chris Davies’ side can, in theory, notch a staggering 113 points this term.
That would completely smash the current record for most points in a single campaign, which Wolverhampton Wanderers set in 2013/14.
| Team | Season | Points |
| Wolverhampton Wanderers | 2013/14 | 103 |
| Charlton Athletic | 2011/12 | 101 |
| Plymouth Argyle | 2022/23 | 101 |
| Sheffield United | 2016/17 | 100 |
Forget League One, Birmingham City could break an EFL record
It’s unlikely, though not impossible, that Birmingham will win all 10 of their remaining fixtures.
But they can still lose three matches and take the crown away from Wolves.
However, if they want to go one step further, the Blues are still able to set a new EFL record for most points in one campaign.
That accolade is currently held by Reading, who clinched the Championship title in 2005/06 with 106 points.
The previous record of 105 was set by Sunderland in 1998/1999 when they won Division 1.
