Blackburn Rovers face ‘harsh’ Ipswich Town decision as EFL bosses deal with ‘nightmare’

Following the abandonment of Blackburn Rovers vs Ipswich Town, the ‘most likely scenario’ has been predicted, which could lead to a ‘harsh’ decision being made on Blackburn Rovers.

With 10 minutes left on the clock at a damp Ewood Park, Blackburn Rovers’ clash with Ipswich Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

After the surface had become unplayable, the decision was made by the referee, in spite of Rovers leading the tie 1-0 against 10 men.

In the aftermath of the called-off contest, Todd Cantwell has said that Blackburn Rovers should be awarded the points, while many Ipswich Town fans would object to that decision.

As a difficult decision awaits either team, with the EFL set up to make up their mind on Monday on how to approach the abandonment, they have been told that it is a logistical ‘nightmare’ set to unravel.

Blackburn Rovers may have to replay the entire game vs Ipswich Town in ‘harsh’ call

As both Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town wait for the EFL’s official verdict on how to approach the abandonment at Ewood Park, it is inevitable that one set of supporters will be left enraged by whatever decision is made.

Much to Blackburn Rovers fans’ disappointment, it has been predicted by EFL expert Ryan Dilks that ‘the most likely scenario’ of the abandonment may not swing in their favour.

Via the Second Tier Podcast, Dilks said: “I think the most likely scenario is that they do just replay the entire game. But it is also so harsh on Blackburn, isn’t it? And then if Ipswich win the replay and then win promotion with three points or fewer, you’re opening up a can of worms there as well. It’s a logistical nightmare.”

A win against the Tractor Boys would have taken Valerian Ismael’s side up to 10th in the Championship table, but the odds currently stack up against the Lancashire outfit.

The best outcome that Blackburn Rovers may expect

It is highly unlikely that Blackburn Rovers will automatically be handed the win against Ipswich Town, while a victory at home did look likely in the circumstances.

10 minutes of action will almost certainly not be disregarded by the EFL, and it is highly likely that the two sides will take to the field once again.

Blackburn Rovers can wish for the score to remain intact and for only 10 minutes to be played, but with the distance that Ipswich Town would have to cover, it would be a nightmare logistically for both clubs, and one that has no clear and obvious solution to help both clubs.
