Blackburn Rovers are currently busy in the transfer market with a number of players looking set to depart, while a few new faces are entering the doors at Ewood Park.

Fans will be hopeful the new signings can hit the ground running and end their spell outside the Premier League, the hope being they can strive for promotion to build off their strong finish to the last campaign.

Valérien Ismaël has already added to the squad, but he is set to lose fan favourite Callum Brittain.

The last time Blackburn Rovers managed a promotion, it was from League One to the Championship in 2018.

Rovers made a few crucial signings that summer to be able to achieve promotion, including Bradley Dack, who thrived in that campaign, and he gives a number of reasons for that; however, one stands out.

Dack was an integral piece of the Blackburn Rovers side that earned promotion to the Championship that season.

He opted to join Blackburn despite offers from Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers, who were both in the division above.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Dack explained why he decided to move to Ewood Park and how it allowed him to thrive.

He said: “Blackburn felt right under Tony [Mowbray].

“I owe a lot to him, his family, and obviously the backroom staff that he had. He was amazing for me.

“He’s the best manager I’ve worked under. He’s just an amazing guy, an amazing person. He looked after me in lots of different ways and just had real belief in my ability to go and express myself. He always wanted to make me play free.

“That was incredible; he is an incredible man. I’ve got nothing but amazing things to say about him.”

Blackburn Rovers’ 2018 League One promotion

Rovers finished second in League One that season, earning them automatic promotion back to the Championship on their first attempt.

They could have won the title on the final day, but results did not go their way; despite them beating Oxford United, Wigan Athletic claimed the title on the final day as they beat Fleetwood Town comfortably.

Dack had an incredible season that season, as he finished top goal scorer for the club with 18 goals across 45 appearances.

While it only may have been promotion back to the Championship, it was a memorable campaign for fans, as they got to see their side play free-flowing football under Mowbray.
