The play-offs, or the football equivalent of Christmas, is finally here.

After a gruelling 46-game Championship season, the four teams competing in the play-offs are vying to reach the promised land of the Premier League.

Kicking off the campaign is Bristol City vs Sheffield United on 8 May at Ashton Gate.

Liam Manning’s Robins are the underdogs whereas Chris Wilder’s Blades are considered to be one of the favourites for promotion.

Bristol City’s home record should concern Sheffield United but this season, the Blades can head to Ashton Gate knowing that they’ve already beat the Robins on their home turf once.

Sheffield United claimed a 2-1 win in dramatic circumstances on 5 November 2024 as Ryan One equalised in the 86th minute before Harrison Burrows struck home a 98th minute winner to claim victory.

In the reverse fixture at Bramall Lane, the honours were shared and this time it was Manning’s side who got an injury time equaliser as Mark Sykes fired home.

If these two play-off games were to end in the same way, it would be Sheffield United advancing to the play-off final with a 3-2 aggregate win.
