Bristol City star Ross McCrorie spoke about the ‘amazing’ full-time scenes at Ashton Gate after play-offs were confirmed.
Bristol City drew 2-2 with Preston North End on the final day of the 2024/25 season, sealing their place in the Championship play-offs.
The Robins’ achievement led to incredible scenes on the hallowed Ashton Gate turf, as, following the news that Blackburn Rovers were unable to notch a win away at Sheffield United, Bristol City had their Championship play-off fate sealed.
It has been 17 years since Bristol City last reached the Championship play-offs, which saw them narrowly miss out on the Premier League to Hull City in the final, but now a clash with Sheffield United and a potential final stand between the Robins and the top division in the country. After such an ending to the season, it’s no surprise to see the celebrations that ensued at the ground, something that Bristol City star Ross McCrorie has since spoken about.

Bristol City midfielder Ross McCrorie on the full-time celebrations and what one ‘fella’ did to him
After such an achievement for Bristol City, it was always going to be met with a huge reaction from the Ashton Gate faithful, with many spilling onto the pitch to celebrate with the players.
One player that was at the centre of celebrations was Scotsman Ross McCrorie, who revelled in the pandemonium at the ground.
“The fans came on and honestly it was amazing,” McCrorie said when talking to ITV.
“Some fella grabbed me and just picked me up and I got a few digs and that in the ribs, but honestly, it was incredible.
“I genuinely can’t put it into words, it was that good. The fans have been amazing all season, and we’re going to need it these next two games.”

Bristol City fans could be the difference makers ahead of Championship play-offs
It is always a cliché to suggest that the supporters at a home ground are the 12th man for any side, but it will certainly be the case for Bristol City when they welcome Sheffield United to Ashton Gate.
In recent years, Bristol City’s support, not just in numbers, but in volume, has improved drastically, and much of this has certainly been channelled into the players.
This is all reflected in Bristol City’s home form this season, where they have notched 46 points in 23 games, which stands at the 4th best in the Championship. Being handed Sheffield United in the play-offs is certainly the short straw for Bristol City, but the tie could be turned in the first leg if the fans can make Ashton Gate a hostile environment for the travelling team.
