Aaron Ramsey’s decision regarding his future has left the majority of Cardiff City fans ecstatic for one clear reason.
Cardiff City are still in the process of recruiting a manager to lead them in the 2025/26 League One campaign.
Following relegation from the Championship, which was unavoidable after Omar Riza was relieved of his duties too late into the season, the search for a new head coach started, with Aaron Ramsey the favourite to continue his role, but on a permanent basis.
However, Aaron Ramsey looks set to continue his playing career, with a left-field move to Mexican side Pumas in the offing.
As a result, Cardiff City fans have shown their delight at one thing because of Ramsey’s decision to drop out of the running for the Bluebirds’ top job.

Cardiff City fans are delighted as Des Buckingham becomes likely frontrunner for manager role
Des Buckingham is the most likely to be handed the Cardiff City job at this point with fellow contender Aaron Ramsey dropping out of the battle.
Only two days ago, the two contenders were seemingly neck-and-neck, but Cardiff fans were clear in who they wanted the reins to be handed to.
Reacting on X, the majority of Cardiff fans were in support of Buckingham getting the job over Ramsey, despite the Welsh midfielder’s link with the club, having stepped in as interim for the final few games of the 2024/25 Championship season.
One fan said, ‘I like Ramsey, but it’s far too early for him to take on this job, I think. Des Buckingham [has] been my first choice from the start, it has to be him’.
Another fan said: “Morrison, Hudson, Riza, all inexperienced managers, all failures. Ramsey has less experience than all of them. Why does anybody think this will work?”
Even Oxford United fans were praising their former boss, suggesting that ‘Des would be class for you guys’, to which a Cardiff fan responded by saying ‘we all want him’.

Aaron Ramsey would have been too much of a gamble at this pivotal stage for Cardiff
Going down to League One, there will be plenty of pressure on Cardiff City to bounce back immediately. Such a role requires a manager with experience, but Ramsey simply isn’t the person for that at the moment.
Buckingham’s League One record speaks for itself and shows that he knows what it takes to get promoted. Most recently, he managed to continue Liam Manning’s fine work and lead his side to promotion from the third tier with Oxford United, only to be rather cruelly sacked the following season, despite the U’s being about the relegation zone.
Ramsey could have been brilliant because of his current relationship with the squad, but experience has to be prioritised with this appointment and that should make it a no-brainer for the board to appoint Buckingham.
