After a difficult end to March, June has been much more positive for Plymouth Argyle and the Devonshire outfit now have a manager in place at Home Park.

Tom Cleverley was announced as the new Pilgrims boss on Friday after Watford sacked the ex-Manchester United midfielder controversially.

With Ryan Hardie looking likely to move to Wrexham, Cleverley will be keen to get started in the transfer market and start building his squad ready for League One football.

However, in an exciting twist, Plymouth may just find themselves with new owners at the helm, and the potential deal is one that supporters will be truly excited for.

Consortium led by Gareth Bale plots to purchase Plymouth Argyle

The Telegraph Sport revealed on Monday afternoon that the League One club are in talks with a private equity group, based in the US, and Gareth Bale is part of the plan to complete the purchase.

Simon Hallett, the Pilgrims’ owner, is keen to bring in investment and a full takeover would not be a surprise after a bid to sell a stake of the club to new investors fell through in May.

The report does state that there is not a true understanding of how much involvement the former Real Madrid winger has in the actual purchasing of Plymouth, but it seems he will very much be a part of the board if a takeover is successful.

Gareth Bale will be hoping for a meeting with Luka Modric in 2026/27 in the Championship

Luka Modric is now a minority shareholder at Swansea City, and the Championship side will be looking to push on with the Croatian football legend in tow.

Bale will be hoping to have a big impact at Home Park if this takeover goes through, and supporters will be just as shocked as they were with Modric, if he does find himself in the Director’s Box in Devon at some point soon.

The ambition for Plymouth this season is to make an instant return to the Championship following their relegation in 2024/25. Doing so could set up a meeting between the two former Real Madrid teammates, and the battle in the boardroom would be one to keep an eye on.
