Championship experts claim one team will ‘come out and attack’ with Coventry City vs Portsmouth score prediction

With everything still to play for in the final six games of the season, all eyes are on Coventry City vs Portsmouth on Wednesday night with the outcome set to impact the top and bottom of the Championship table.

Frank Lampard’s impressive run as Coventry City manager propelled the Sky Blues into play-off contention, but a recent dip in form has harmed their chances of a trip to Wembley come the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth have been inconsistent, with strong home form and weak displays away from Fratton Park leaving them in the bottom half of the table right now.

John Mousinho admitted Coventry are ‘better’ under Lampard than they were earlier in the season, but will his Pompey side come away from the CBS Arena with all three points?

Coventry City get pundits’ backing against Portsmouth

Discussing the upcoming fixture on the Championship Check-In podcast, Benjamin Bloom and Sam Parkin came to an agreement on which side would win the clash, and their Coventry vs Portsmouth score prediction will please the home fans.

Bloom said: “I’m sorry Pompey fans, I do it every time you’re away… I think we’re going to get a Coventry bounce back, I think they’ll go on a run and probably get fifth place. I think that run starts here. I don’t like Pompey away from home. I don’t think they’re safe with 45 points… I’ll go Coventry 2-0.”

Parkin agreed, adding: “There’s nothing that’s changing my mind, I do think Portsmouth will be safe. But they’ve got Derby at home at the weekend, an incredible week for them.

“I have to go with my gut here, I wasn’t overly impressed with Coventry at the weekend, and I think they’ll come out here now the pack has changed and Bristol City have leapfrogged them. The onus is on them to come out and attack here in this game, and I think they will. I’ll go Coventry 2-1.”

A win for Coventry as predicted would push them back into play-off contention, while defeat for Pompey would leave them looking nervously over their shoulders at the Championship relegation battle.

Coventry City have to bounce back here or the play-off dream could be over

Three defeats in the last four have seen Coventry slip out of the top six, with a resurgent Middlesbrough, and the continued push from a quietly impressive Bristol City side jumping into the play-off spots over the weekend.

A win against Portsmouth will keep the Sky Blues, while defeat would almost certainly kill off any hope of a surprise promotion this season.

To be fair, a few months ago, Coventry fans wouldn’t have dreamed of pushing for the top six. Indeed, they were much closer to the drop zone than the top half of the table.

Lampard has done a fine job, regardless of whether Coventry get a play-off adventure or not this year. But, Lampard’s success has drawn attention from elsewhere, which will concern Sky Blues fans.

There’s every chance that promotion is the only way to keep their manager, which would make failure doubly disappointing.
