Burnley and West Bromwich Albion do battle tonight in a crucial match for both sides, with Scott Parker’s side hoping to leapfrog Leeds United in the automatic promotion places.

West Brom travel to the promotion-chasers at Turf Moor, with both teams heading into the encounter on the back of home victories and a positive weekend for both in the Championship.

The Baggies defeated QPR 1-0 at The Hawthorns thanks to Adam Armstrong’s penalty, while the Clarets thumped Luton Town 4-0 to extend their their unbeaten run to 23 league games on Saturday.

Burnley are mounting a serious title charge and will head into Tuesday’s clash just two points adrift of top two Sheffield United and Leeds. Meanwhile, Mowbray’s men are beginning to feel a little more comfortable in the play-off picture after the weekend’s narrow win with ten men.

Burnley have to come through difficult West Brom fixture at Turf Moor

Four of the last five meetings have ended level, with three of those ending 0-0 including the reverse fixture in the West Midlands back in early November, but this will be a serious test of Burnley’s promotion credentials.

Parker’s side offer a stern test for any team, given that they remain the only unbeaten side at home in the Championship, winning ten and drawing eight of their 18 encounters in front of their own supporters so far.

Speaking via the Championship Check-In podcast, Benjamin Bloom and EFL pundit Sam Parkin have had their say on how the game will unravel on Tuesday.

Bloom asked: “Can you see a Burnley slip at home to West Brom?”

Parkin responded: “No, I don’t think I can see them losing the game; but if West Brom keep everyone on the pitch I think there’s something for them here.

“I’m going to go for a dull, emphatic 0-0.”

Bloom added: “To be fair, 0-0 has been a successful prediction for Burnley this season. But, I want to believe West Brom can score at Turf Moor.

“I think they’ve got the quality and the manager to do it. But I do think Tony Mowbray will succumb to Burnley in the end.

“Both teams will score, but Burnley will win 2-1.”

Burnley’s home form compared to the rest of the Championship

There are differences between Mowbray and Corberan at West Brom, but their away record has remained an issue. They have failed to win any of their last 11 on the road since defeating Hull City in November.

That said, thanks to Bristol City only managing to glean a point from their contest with Hull this weekend, West Brom have opened up a two-point lead over the Robins in the play-off race. It means a trip to Turf Moor is less daunting and more of a free hit.

Mowbray has racked up four wins from his five home games with no victories in four away from home. They travel to a Clarets side who remain the only team in the division with their unbeaten home record still intact.

Burnley have designs on promotion of their own, and the form at Turf Moor could be the difference between gaining automatic promotion or meeting a side like West Brom again in the play-offs. With the current goalscoring form of Parker’s side, it’s hard to see them falling short now.
