One Sunderland star has been rewarded with the Championship goal of the month accolade.
As we enter the business end of the 2024/25 Championship season, there is still plenty to play for at the top and bottom of the table.
Many sides currently find themselves either within the hunt for play-offs or deep in a relegation scrap, but Sunderland, on the other hand, are comfortably sat in 4th with very little to play for prior to the play-offs, in which they have already confirmed a spot for.
12 points separate Regis Le Bris’ side from the automatic spot, making it an unsuormountable task to notch an automatic spot, therefore Sunderland are sat waiting for the play-offs to commence.
Sunderland’s recent results have been a mixed bag, including a tedious 1-1 draw against Preston North End, a game that was crucial in dictating that the Black Cats simply didn’t have enough in them to challenge for automatic promotion, but did still offer the silver lining of Romaine Mundle’s incredible strike, on which has now been recognised as the Championship Goal of the Month for March.

Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle is the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month winner for March
Mundle’s strike against Preston North End was certainly one to sit back and admire. He took one touch to his right before tracing a perfect arc with his 25-yard angled shot, which curled and dipped in perfect harmony to find the top corner.
Talking about the goal, lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “There was very little Preston could do to stop Romaine Mundle’s brilliant strike. He shifted the ball onto his right, creating a yard of space, and curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner in off the post.”
Mundle beat off competition from Sheffield United’s Tyrese Campbell, Hull City’s Joao Pedro, and Luton Town’s Jordan Clark.
Leyton Orient’s Jordan Brown and MK Dons’ Scott Hogan claim Sky Bet League One & Two Goal of the Month awards
Down in League One, Leyton Orient star Jordan Brown notched the accolade for his strike in March against Charlton Athletic, which saw him take a touch, and send in a searing shot which pierced the back of the net.
The goal was described as ‘an unstoppable half volley that flew into the net’ by Don Goodman, but it certainly had competition from the League Two winner of the award, and that was MK Dons forward Scott Hogan.
A goal, hailed by Goodman as ‘special’, saw the ball fly past the goalkeeper, who was left unmoved from his volleyed strike that rocketed into the far side of the net.
