We are into the business end of the season now, and the race for the Championship Golden Boot is heating up, with plenty of players in the running.
This Championship campaign has been as enthralling as ever, with a four-horse race gunning for automatic promotion, a whole host of teams in the mix for the play-offs, and an incredibly tight relegation battle at the bottom.
Any good team looking to be successful in the second tier will need goals, and we’ve seen plenty of impressive marksmen already this season.
The likes of Leeds United and Sunderland are flying high, and have prolific strikers to thank for that, while other teams around the top six have also got strong goalscorers to lean on.
But, as the season enters the final run-in, we take a look at the Championship Golden Boot race and see which striker will end up top of the charts come the end of the season.

Championship Golden Boot race 2024/25
We’ll take a look at the seven players who have scored 11 goals or more so far this season, as they’re the most likely to end up winning the Championship Golden Boot.
The one name we’ve left off the list is Emmanuel Latte Lath, who scored 11 goals for Middlesbrough before transferring to Atlanta United in the MLS during the January transfer window.
Borja Sainz (Norwich City) – 15 goals
Norwich City star Borja Sainz has been leading the way for some time now. It’s even more impressive that the Spaniard missed six games at the start of 2025 due to a suspension for spitting
However, Sainz’s last league goal came at the end of November. He hasn’t been on the scoresheet in his last 11 appearances, and there’s every chance he will be usurped in this race if he doesn’t find his scoring boots again soon.

Joel Piroe (Leeds United) – 15 goals
Leeds are gunning for the Championship record points tally this season, and most neutral fans believe Daniel Farke’s side are all-but promoted already.
It’s hard to pin down one reason for that success, with a strong defence and brilliant attacking roster helping the Whites dominate this season. But, 15 goals from Joel Piroe certainly helps.
The Dutchman has five goals in his last five games after bagging again in the win over Sheffield United on Monday night, and is one of the most in-form strikers in the division. Piroe is most certainly the new favourite to take the award this season.
Josh Maja (West Brom) – 12 goals
Another player who started the season in phenomenal form, Josh Maja had seven goals in his first seven games. He has scored sporadically since then, but an eight-game drought between November and January has harmed his chances.
Maja has not featured at all in the last eight games, either, due to a fairly severe leg injury. It’s very likely the West Brom man will slip down the list as the season goes on.
Wilson Isidor (Sunderland) – 12 goals
Sunderland’s main man in attack, Wilson Isidor, has taken the league by storm in his first season in England. The Frenchman has been fairly consistent all year, and currently has four goals in his last six games.
The good thing for Isidor is, he’s almost certain to play every game for the Black Cats, and usually gets on the end of anything his teammates create. He’s definitely one to watch in the Championship Golden Boot race.

Callum Robinson (Cardiff City) – 12 goals
Cardiff City may be struggling near the bottom of the table, but Callum Robinson has been in brilliant goalscoring form for the Bluebirds.
He’s had a bit of a stop-start season due to injury and rotation, but has been relatively consistent in his goalscoring form. Robinson has one of the best conversion rates in this list (24%) and only Joel Piroe has a better goals per 90 ratio.
Suffice to say, if he was playing in a stronger team this season, Robinson would probably have a few more goals to his name.
Josh Sargent (Norwich City) – 11 goals
With seven goals in his last six matches, there is no striker in the Championship in better form right now than Josh Sargent. He has the best conversion rate of anyone in the scoring charts (26%) and a strong goals per 90 ratio of 0.62 over his 20 matches this season.
It’s incredible that Sargent is in the running for the Championship Golden Boot, considering he missed 14 games in the middle of the season due to a groin issue. If he keeps up his current momentum and Norwich continue to thrive, Sargent could be a real dark horse in this race.

| 6= | Anis Mehmeti | 11 | 32 | 0.46 | 194 | 72 | 15% |
Anis Mehmeti (Bristol City) – 11 goals
A real outsider in this race is Bristol City’s Anis Mehmeti. Somehow, both the club and the player have slipped under the radar this season, and Bristol City currently sit in eighth place, just two points off the top six.
The versatile Albanian has gone long periods without a goal this season, but has also notched braces against Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth, and Stoke City to boost his numbers. We’re not sure Bristol City can build up enough steam to keep supplying Mehmeti, but he’s certainly capable of bagging a few more before the season is out.
