Coventry City snatched all three points in the dying moments against Stoke City this afternoon, with Frank Lampard getting one over former Sky Blues boss, Mark Robins.
Being 2-0 up at half-time, in spite of a stonewall penalty being turned down after a clear foul on Ephron Mason-Clark, Coventry City appeared to have another win in the bag.
However, Stoke City fought back to equalise in the second half thanks to Sam Gallagher’s brace, and the two teams appeared to be ready to share the points.
It looked like being a huge point for Stoke in their fight against relegation, and a major disappointment for Coventry ahead of the Championship 3pm fixtures and given the possibility of the chasing pack beneath them closing the gap.
But, a last-minute winner from Bobby Thomas turned the game back in Coventry’s favour and bagged another three points for this resurgent Frank Lampard outfit.

Victor Torp excels in Coventry City 3-2 Stoke City
Thomas’ stunning winner may take the headlines, but Victor Torp was the star of the show in a Coventry City shirt, having scored two excellent goals and delivered some promising set-pieces as well.
Milan van Ewijk set up the first, with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto brilliantly laying on the second during a pulsating first half, though the second was even more intense after half-time.
Sky Blues’ fans took to Twitter/X to explain their thoughts on the Dane after he replaced star man Jack Rudoni in the Coventry lineup, following a dislocated shoulder against Oxford United, where they broke a 55-year record.
Discussing the goals, one fan said: “Sakamoto and Torp. It should be illegal to do that.”
Another added: “Torp and Sakamoto, both class, got a lot of stick from fans on here. Great players!”
Meanwhile numerous fans made the comparison to Lampard’s style of play as a player, with one suggesting, “Torp is a Lampard type of player,” and another describing the big Dane as ‘magic.’
Others rued the decision against Mason-Clark before half-time, stating: “Robbed of a penalty and possibly Torp’s hat trick.”

Frank Lampard’s Coventry are in a fantastic position to gain promotion
Lampard piled the praise on Mark Robins prior to the match, but he is the one that has taken Coventry into the play-off placed and put them in with a real shout of playing Premier League football in 2025/26.
It was a ‘really tough’ game for Robins on his return to Coventry, and losing in that way will no doubt be a bitter pill to swallow. But, it’s typical of the place both teams are in right now.
The Coventry penalty incident threatened to overshadow things, but the belief and confidence in the side is evident among the Sky Blues players, who fought for everything until the last whistle.

This Stoke test is the latest game to be ticked off, but the Burnley, Sheffield United, and Sunderland fixtures have the potential to be season-defining for Coventry City now.
Still, with the momentum behind the Sky Blues, you’d be a fool to bet against them heading into the final run-in.
