As we await Rob Edwards’ official introduction as the new Middlesbrough manager, it sounds like his first addition to the club will be a brilliant one.
After finally deciding to part ways with Michael Carrick earlier this month, Middlesbrough took their time to find his successor before landing on Rob Edwards.
We first broke the news that a deal with Edwards had been agreed last week, and public confirmation should come this week.
As part of Edwards coming on board, we understand former Coventry City coach Adi Viveash will join his coaching staff, in what has been heralded as a shrewd move.

Coventry City fans rave about Adi Viveash
For any Boro fans wondering what they will get with Viveash as part of the backroom staff, they need look no further than the glowing recommendations from Coventry City fans.
The question was raised by Middlesbrough fan Jonny, and one Coventry supporter replied: “He has high standards but also he’s very much a players’ coach who’s willing to support players if they work hard even if they have problems. The quotes from former players say it all, plus any interview with him is insightful.”
Another added: “Great with young players, knows the game inside out, has great ideas and thinks in the moment (problem solver). The lads love him… Proper bloke… No bull—-, he is what he is; hard working, honest, reliable, resourceful, hard as nails.”
Some even suggested Viveash may have been typecast somewhat, with one fan replying: “People think he’s an old school coach because he pushes players but he said in a podcast he is a modern coach. Amazing tactically and we looked insecure when he went.”
Viveash worked closely with former boss Mark Robins, and it’s this dynamic Coventry fans appreciated most. One said: “Did an amazing job at Coventry with Mark Robins… tough love but the players seem to really like and trust him. Brilliant coach and good on the tactical side of things. Brilliant move for Boro.”
One Middlesbrough supporter offered some insight they had picked up from a bit of research, adding: “He’s extremely passionate and a stickler for discipline from what I’ve seen.”

Rob Edwards will really shake things up at Middlesbrough
It’s an interesting appointment bringing Edwards in at Boro. For a start, Edwards brings a different playing style to how Carrick used to operate, with a 3-5-2 system set to be introduced.
That’ll mean certain players need to adapt (or move on). Someone like Finn Azaz, who is arguably more effective on the wing, will need to play centrally under Edwards.
We know Edwards wasn’t first choice for Steve Gibson, with Steve Cooper actually the prime candidate. But, perhaps changing things drastically on the pitch will be the key to turning things around at Boro.
