League Two Shrewsbury Town have completed the loan signing of Manchester United youngster Elyh Harrison, and former loanee Dean Henderson has shared his reaction.

Shrewsbury Town finished bottom of League One last season, condemning the Shrews to a gruelling League Two campaign.

Gareth Ainsworth took over at Shrewsbury in November, with the club rock bottom of the third tier table, after an ill-fated spell with QPR in the Championship.

Ainsworth left Shrewsbury for Gillingham towards the end of the season. With Michael Appleton now in place of the former Wycombe Wanderers boss, he will be targeting an instant promotion back to the third tier.

Shrewsbury’s latest loan signing of Manchester United starlet Elyh Harrison will certainly help matters, and the Croud Meadow faithful will be delighted to see a former fan favourite give his seal of approval.

Dean Henderson sends Shrewsbury Town a classy message after Elyh Harrison signs

The Shrewsbury recruitment team have been hard at work throughout the summer transfer window to plot an instant return back to League One.

With Sam Stubbs, Tom Sang, Tom Anderson, Sam Clucas, and Will Boyle all arriving so far in the window.

Via Shrewsbury’s website, the club announced the loan signing of highly-rated Man Utd goalkeeper Elyh Harrison, who joins the fourth tier outfit on a season-long loan.

After featuring on Ruben Amorim’s bench six times last season, the 19-year-old will embark on his maiden professional loan stint in the EFL.

When the move was announced by Shrewsbury, former Man Utd and Shrews loanee shot-stopper Dean Henderson, told the youngster what to expect after his 48-game loan stint at the club in their 2017/18 League One campaign.

Henderson said on X: “Let’s go brother!! Great club!! They will look after you. Smash it”.

The Shrewsbury faithful will be hoping Harrison will have the same impact that Henderson did during his loan stint.

England international Henderson made 48 appearances for Shrewsbury in all competitions, conceding 39 goals and keeping 19 clean sheets in the process, to help his loan outfit finish third in League One, just shy of Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.

Harrison told Shrewsbury’s media after signing: “I’m buzzing to get started. It took a while, but I’m here now, so can’t wait to get started.

“Obviously, with a few injuries at United, (Andre) Onana, it pushed it back a bit, but I got lucky and got it now.

After featuring 20 times for Chester FC last season, highly-rated Harrison is poised to make a big impact at Shrewsbury.

In our early predictions for the 2025/26 League Two season, we at EFL Analysis have tipped Shrewsbury for an 11th-placed finish, but the acquisition of the young shot-stopper could propel the club towards the top half of the table.
