Derby County have made an impressive start to the summer transfer window, and are now poised to complete the loan capture of a Premier League youngster.
Derby County flirted with relegation during the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and John Eustace has now set his sights on the summer transfer window to improve their 19th-placed finish.
Unfortunately for Eustace, Derby were dealt a major blow earlier in the window, after former Liverpool loanee Nat Phillips signed for West Brom over a permanent return to Pride Park.
Instead, Derby signed Danny Batth from Blackburn Rovers to follow up the impressive £5.8m signing of Patrick Agyemang.
With the 2025/26 Championship campaign’s fixture list approaching, Derby are poised to beat newly promoted Wrexham to the signing of an “exceptional” Liverpool starlet.

Derby County ‘close to’ signing Liverpool full-back Owen Beck on loan
After Wrexham made history with successive promotions to reach the second tier, the Red Dragons have shown their Premier League ambitions within the summer transfer window.
Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle, and amid Sheffield Wednesday’s ongoing financial crisis, Wrexham are set to sign Josh Windass on a free after his Owls exit.
After it emerged earlier in the window that Wrexham wanted to sign Owen Beck, one EFL expert told Wrexham why they should sign Beck, believing the deal would have been an “absolutely sparkling signing for Wrexham.”
Unfortunately for Phil Parkinson, Derby are set to beat the Red Dragons to sign Liverpool left-back Beck on loan for next season, seeing the former Blackburn loanee reunite with Eustace.
Telegraph reporter John Percy said on X: “Derby are close to signing Liverpool left-back Owen Beck on loan for the season.
“Deal agreed and Wales U21 international expected to undergo medical later this week.
“Beck was signed by John Eustace at Blackburn last year and was very keen to play under him again.”
Beck made 24 Championship appearances for Rovers last term, scoring one goal, which saw former boss Eustace tip Beck for a ‘huge future’.

Owen Beck has made right decision to reunite with John Eustace
Beck brings some much-needed youth and athleticism to the left-back role for Derby, and despite the glamour of the current Wrexham project, it’s arguable that the 22-year-old has made the right choice not to return to his boyhood club.
Given James McLean’s importance to Parkinson and Wrexham, Beck would’ve found it hard to dislodge the skipper from the Red Dragons squad, which could have hindered his development at a crucial stage.
With Eustace himself well aware of the calibre of player Beck is after their Rovers time, the Rams boss will be elated with the loan move for the Welsh starlet.
Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph last season: “Beck has been recruited to come in and play a certain way for us.
“We could all see today that he’s an exceptional young talent,
“He’s a very aggressive player, he plays on the front foot. He can defend but he’s got good quality in the final third too. There is a lot more to come from him.”
After his second full season of senior football at Rovers last season, Beck is primed to have another standout campaign on loan in the second tier.
The stewardship of a familiar face in Eustace will play a pivotal role in the highly-rated full-back’s development.
At the same time, Beck’s ability to impact all thirds of the pitch will help the Rams climb the table from last season’s feat in what could be the best Championship season yet.
