Wrexham have been linked with a loan move for Liverpool starlet Owen Beck, who enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship last season.
Wrexham made history with successive promotions last season thanks to the club’s remarkable rise from National League to the Championship.
In the 2025/26 Championship campaign, the Red Dragons are hoping to do the unthinkable, with Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds targeting Premier League promotion.
If Wrexham are to achieve promotion next term, in what could be the best Championship season yet, then their summer transfer window business at the Racecourse Ground must be perfect.
With the window in full swing, Wrexham have targeted Liverpool starlet Owen Beck this summer, and one EFL expert has shared his verdict on the potential move.

Expert tells Wrexham why they should sign Owen Beck from Liverpool
It emerged earlier in the window that Wrexham want to sign Beck on loan for the 2025/26 campaign, after the 22-year-old spent last season on loan in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.
The Red Dragons have been busy in the summer window, after Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle as their first summer signing.
EFL expert Ali Maxwell believed Wrexham made a “very smart” signing with Hardie, and now, he has shared his verdict on the club’s pursuit of Beck.
Maxwell, of the Not the Top 20 podcast, told Dragon Sports: “I just think on paper this addition this signing would make so much sense for all parties.
“I think Wrexham would be a fantastic landing spot for him, he was born in Wrexham, and is someone who could feasibly come in and instantly challenge James McClean for minutes in the left wing-back role.
“When it comes to Beck as a left-back, a left wing-back even a left-winger, where he played at times for Blackburn Rovers, what we’ve got here is a guy that can play in any of those positions and so offers really nice versatility,
“I think at Championship level, Beck in his performances for Blackburn last season showed himself to be among the better ball carriers and dribbers, and that’s a big part of Wrexham’s game is making sure that their wing backs can beat their man and get a cross in.
“That’s what Parkinson wants and needs, and Beck is absolutely that type of wing back, he is a good dribbler, speedy and last but not least he’s a very good crosser technically.
“Beck is fantastic the way that he can curl the ball. I really think this deal would make a huge amount of sense for all parties.
“Clearly it would be a really exciting destination for any young player at this point given the Wrexham story and their three straight promotions and their clear ambition, so I’m sitting here really hoping that Beck does move to Wrexham on loan.
“He has also been linked with Rangers in the last few days as well so potentially a decision to be made there from Beck’s point of view, I think it would be an absolutely sparkling signing for Wrexham.”
Unfortunately for Wrexham, Scottish Premier League giants Rangers are also interested in recruiting the young full-back, so the Red Dragons must act quickly to secure the services of James McClean’s Wrexham heir.

Owen Beck is obvious successor for James McClean for Wrexham
Left-back McClean has been a mainstay in Parkinson’s Wrexham side throughout their promotion from League Two, with the Red Dragons skipper making 89 appearances since arriving from Wigan Athletic in 2022.
Despite McClean being the trusted left wing-back in Parkinson’s 3-5-2 set-up, the former Sunderland player is now 36, and is entering the swansong years of his career at Championship level.
| Key statistic | Owen Beck in 24/25 for Blackburn | James McClean in 24/25 for Wrexham |
| Games played | 25 | 45 |
| Goals | 1 | 4 |
| Assists | 0 | 7 |
| Chances created | 19 | 51 |
| Successful crosses | 21 | 63 |
| Duels won | 109 | 200 |
As a result, Beck will be the perfect successor to McClean in Parkinson’s system, given their similar abilities and profiles.
Beck has a decision to make regarding his future, whether he will return to his boyhood club knowing there is a task at hand to dislodge McClean, or favour a move to Ibrox.
