Danny Rohl to Wolfsburg links are ‘true’ as Sheffield Wednesday boss desperate for ‘first real opportunity’ to leave

EFL Analysis can confirm that reports suggesting Danny Rohl has held talks with German side Wolfsburg are in fact true.

Sheffield Wednesday are under a transfer embargo and facing a crisis off the pitch, and that seems to be affecting all areas of the pitch.

One financial expert even thinks administration would help Wednesday as pressure continues to build from fans on controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club.

Rohl wants to leave Wednesday and the Owls boss was a frontrunner to become Leicester City manager but is still at Hillsborough for now.

However, Kicker revealed that the German had been in conversation with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and a positive outcome could be reached.

Danny Rohl has a ‘good chance’ of landing the Wolfsburg job

According to EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, the Wednesday manager is being linked with a variety of clubs and is desperate to ‘grasp’ the first chance to leave the Yorkshire side, but a return to Germany is a big possibility.

Bailey said: “There have been talks of Wolfsburg liking him, and that is true. We know Danny Rohl wants out. He has been in the Middlesbrough conversation, but I don’t think he’s the favourite there to be fair. I think the Boro fans would like him a lot, but no, not really from what I’m hearing.

“People close to him have indicated that he was more likely to go back to Germany than anything this summer. At this point, there has been talks of Wolfsburg. He’s one of the options and he’s in the mix for the Leicester and Middlesbrough jobs as we know, but being in the mix doesn’t really mean much for him really.

“I think the first real opportunity he has, he’ll grasp with both hands and there’s a good chance that will be the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. But, there are a few jobs out there he could look at.”

Danny Rohl would be open to working in Germany

Managing in the biggest league of your home country is a dream for anyone and Rohl is no different.

The 36-year-old has admitted this first hand and told BILD earlier this year that it is something he would like to do.

He said: “It feels good that my name is constantly being mentioned. It’s validation for my work.

“The Bundesliga is obviously something special because I grew up with it. I would love to manage there.”
