Amid all the chaos caused by Dejphon Chansiri’s failure to pay his staff, it’s easy to forget about the situation regarding Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday.

Right now, Sheffield Wednesday fans are fearing the worst, with failed payments leading to the club being hit with a transfer embargo and facing even more punishments like points deductions in the future.

Dejphon Chansiri has been slammed by fans for the ongoing mess, and at this stage, it’s still unclear whether any solution will arise.

On top of all that, Danny Rohl continues to be forthright in discussing his own future, and it sounds like he’s ready to get away from Hillsborough as quickly as he can.

Danny Rohl tells German media his plans

Speaking to German outlet BILD, in an interview taking place in the Sheffield Wednesday coaching room no less, Rohl was asked about his desire to return to the Bundesliga and did not hold back in admitting that is his goal.

He said: “If it were up to me, as soon as possible. The Bundesliga is obviously something special because I grew up with it. For me, it’s always about working at the highest level. I want to compete against the best teams, with the best coaches.

“I have the good feeling that I’ve been able to generate significant added value over the last 18, 19 months in a demanding league with very different playing styles.”

On those links with RB Leipzig in particular, Rohl added: “Leipzig, the Bundesliga – that’s obviously a package, which would be something special. Especially since I witnessed the club’s development from the very beginning. Back then, we started with four employees in the youth academy.”

Rohl refused to disclose whether any official contact had been made this summer, but revealed there have been approaches in the past.

“I see the interest from clubs as validation of my work. There were enquiries last year, too, even from Germany, from the Bundesliga. It feels good that my name is constantly being mentioned both here in England and in Germany,” he said. “But I also know that football is fast-paced. The last 18 or 19 months are no reason to rest. I remain very, very ambitious. And I’m always ready to work hard. We’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Will Danny Rohl stay in England or go to the Bundesliga?

While all signs point to Rohl leaving for Germany, there is still the small matter of his reported £5m release clause, something the Owls are not willing to budge on.

That was ultimately the reason for Werder Bremen deciding against hiring Rohl recently, and could stand in the way of any other exit this summer.

Earlier this week, we named Rohl the frontrunner for the Leicester City job. He may be more keen on the Bundesliga, but given the current situation in S6, it could be that Rohl decides the grass is greener anywhere and everywhere but at Sheffield Wednesday.
