Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has failed to pay players and staff for the second time this year.

Players and staff of Sheffield Wednesday have gone unpaid for the second time in 2025, and the Owls have now been charged with multiple breaches of EFL regulations.

The Owls were facing similar charges earlier this year in March, but owner Dejphon Chansiri paid in time to dodge potential punishments for Sheffield Wednesday.

Matters in every department at Hillsborough have been turbulent so far this summer.

Head coach Danny Rohl is seemingly desperate to leave, and Leicester fans are hoping Rohl becomes their next manager.

Off the field, matters are worse for Wednesday, as Chansiri fails to move on the numerous parties interested in taking over Sheffield Wednesday.

Amid the latest fiasco, Owls fans have taken to social media to slam the conduct of Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday fans blast Dejphon Chansiri amid EFL charges

Chansiri has the Owls staring down the precipice of a potential three-window transfer ban, with the Wednesday chairman failing to pay players and club staff once more.

Morale is low amongst the Owls fanbase, with universally loved manager Rohl determined to leave the club amid the latest financial woes.

Following the EFL’s charges of multiple breaches of regulations relating to payment obligations, Owls fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on Chansiri.

One Wednesday fan said: “The longer it goes on the less the club is worth, If he cuts his losses he gets a decent price, if it’s admin and transfer embargo’s it’s a fire sale. He’s too stubborn to realise that but he’ll get what’s coming to him.”

Another said: “What a disaster. I feel sorry for the non playing staff, more than anything We all just want our football club back”.

One Wednesdayite posted: “Disgusting…. The guy talks about respect and doesn’t show any to staff or fans… the wages to “non staff” was worst bit for me.”

Another argued: “Instead of words and token actions, fans should now totally embargo the games, force him out through finances.”

“Surely we are at a point now where the EFL need to step in. If this guy isn’t selling, how the hell does he expect to meet the new fit and proper criteria that are coming in?”, lobbied one supporter.

Another said: “The communication towards the fans has been an utter disgrace and the whole situation is an embarrassment. Time to go”.

A sixth Owls fan scolded Chansiri, and said: “Disgrace, shambles, every other word to describe mis management, poor leadership, lack of pragmatism (vital in his position for stability) petty, child like at times, scornful, arrogant and selfish.”

Amid the rife anger and disappointment amongst the Wednesday faithful, the next question will be about what happens next for the club, and the immediate impact that the latest revelations could have.

What does the future look like for Sheffield Wednesday

Head coach Rohl is hopeful of exiting the club he has managed 89 matches for, but no club is willing to pay his release clause.

Losing one of the Championship’s best young coaching prospects would be the biggest concern for the vast majority of clubs, but the financial woes instigated by chairman Chansiri pale in comparison to the head coach saga.

The EFL’s statement outlined that Sheffield Wednesday and Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges, which were released on the evening of June 3.

Football finance expert Adam Williams issued his verdict on the Wednesday situation, and he revealed that if the Owls don’t respond satisfactorily within that time, a points deduction at the start of next season could occur.

Given the gravitas of the EFL’s charges, and the domino effect they could have on the future of Sheffield Wednesday, more developments will certainly come to light over the next fortnight.
