It’s so obvious who Leicester City’s next manager should be after Russell Martin snub

Leicester City are back to the drawing board when it comes to finding a new manager.

It appeared that Russell Martin would be appointed imminently following the news that Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future remains in doubt.

There is a chance that Leicester could wait until the end of June to sack Van Nistelrooy in a bid to help stay within the rules.

Martin seemed a dead cert to come to the King Power Stadium but Fabrizio Romano revealed that the former Southampton boss had agreed terms with Rangers and will be heading back to Ibrox, where he had a brief spell as a player.

If Van Nistelrooy is to be sacked after all, there’s only one man that the Foxes should be going for.

Danny Rohl surely has to become Leicester City’s next manager

Reports claimed that Danny Rohl was on Leicester’s shortlist of candidates to become the new manager, alongside Martin and Liam Rosenior.

With Rosenior flying at Strasbourg and Martin going to Rangers, that only leaves Rohl as a genuine possibility.

Rohl wants to leave Sheffield Wednesday and his decision could be accelerated by the news that Wednesday’s owners failed to pay their players recently.

The German would be taking a step up, despite the fact that Leicester could be given a 12-point deduction and will have his eyes on taking a squad that’s proved it can compete at the top end of the Championship, back to the Premier League.

Leicester City need to tell Ruud van Nistelrooy how they feel

Although the feeling is that Van Nistelrooy won’t be in charge next season, Leicester aren’t exactly moving quickly to sort anything.

Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett revealed that the Foxes’ hierarchy are yet to sit down with the Dutchman and discuss if he will be here next season.

In just a couple of weeks’ time, Leicester will learn their schedule for the 2025/26 season. By then, they need to know what direction they’ll be heading in.
