John Eustace has made a surprise statement about Luton Town’s victory at the weekend that preceded Derby County’s clash with Hull City.
Derby County notched a crucial three points at the weekend as they beat Hull City 1-0 at the MKM Stadium.
The Rams did brilliantly not to succumb to the threat of a Tigers side backed by a sell-out crowd, with Derby County defender Nat Phillips bagging the decisive goal late in the second half from a brilliant powered header.
Derby County aren’t home and dry in the Championship relegation fight, however, find themselves with a one-point buffer off Hull City in 22nd, and also have a superior goal difference.
Following the huge win at the weekend, John Eustace was asked about the win for Luton Town, which led to him suggesting one thing he was ‘unaware’ of.

Derby County boss John Eustace was ‘unaware’ of Luton Town triumph vs Coventry City
The pressure was certainly on Derby County, as well as Hull City in their 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon after Luton Town had won in the early kick-off against Coventry City.
However, Eustace not only confirmed that his players were unaware of the result, but that he was as well.
“You don’t look at the other clubs and what they’re doing, we concentrate on Derby County and we can control that,” said Eustace in his post-match duties, per Hull Live. “If we start worrying about other things, there will be problems.
“I was unaware that Luton had won, I’m sure the majority of the group were as well, and we went about our business in the right way and got the right result.”
Derby County and Luton Town claiming victories at the weekend means that just two points separate five sides between 18th and 22nd ahead of the final day.

John Eustace must not lose sight of the huge task ahead of the Rams
With one game left of the 2024/25 Championship season, relegation is still very much in the balance for five teams, including Derby County.
All sides will be looking over their shoulders to see how Hull City fare against Portsmouth, a game that will dictate whether anyone else will be sucked into the dreaded bottom three as a point, because of Hull’s superior goal difference compared to some sides could be enough to seal survival.
Whilst the likelihood of survival is in favour of Derby County, they will still have to potentially overcome Mark Robins’ Stoke City.
Eustace will want to make sure that his side are fully prepared for such a crucial match, where one point should likely be enough for them to stay in the Championship next season.
