The chances of finishing in the play-offs for a handful of sides took yet another turn this weekend in the Championship.

In the penultimate weekend of the Championship season, there were many twists and turns at both ends of the table.

The Championship relegation fight saw Hull City sucked into the bottom three as Derby County beat the Tigers, whilst Luton Town notched a win against Coventry City.

The defeat handed to Frank Lampard’s Coventry has blown the play-off race wide open, as Blackburn Rovers also returned to the fold after an unexpected run of four wins on the bounce.

After this weekend’s action, the chances of finishing in the play-offs for several sides hovering around the top six have been revealed.

Championship play-off finish chances ahead of final weekend

With three points separating 5th-placed Bristol City and Middlesbrough in 9th, the fight for the final two play-off spots looks set to go down to the wire.

Weeks ago, Coventry City looked set to finish in the top six after their resurgence under Lampard, however, a poor run of form has made their spot much more precarious, whilst Blackburn have emerged from the shadows to reignite their hopes of the play-offs.

Because of this weekend’s action, here is what the OPTA Analyst predictions for the play-offs look like…

Pressure will be on Coventry City on the final day

With Bristol City having a huge advantage to hold onto their play-off place, as shown by their percentage chance of finishing in the top six, all eyes will be on the out-of-form Coventry City side as they host Middlesbrough.

If Lampard’s side do slip to a draw, Coventry will be looking over their shoulders at both Blackburn and Millwall, and a defeat could see Middlesbrough come into the fray.

After such a brilliant second half of the campaign following the dismissal of Mark Robins, Coventry certainly won’t want all the positive work to go up in flames on the final day, although they will have to contend with a hungry Middlesbrough side.
