Derby County have confirmed the signing of forward Rhian Brewster on a two-year contract after he left Sheffield United to become a free agent this summer.
Derby County flirted with relegation to League One from the Championship last season, but the Rams’ summer transfer business has silenced any fears of another survival scrap.
John Eustace has attracted some impressive signings to Pride Park this summer, with the most recent addition being David Ozoh’s loan return to Derby from Crystal Palace.
Despite making seven signings this summer, the Rams are not done yet, as Derby’s £1m bid for Nectarios Triantis was rejected by Sunderland this week.
Following the Triantis blow, Derby have confirmed their eighth signing of the summer in former Sheffield United forward Rhian Brewster, which has seen the Rams fanbase react in unified excitement.

Derby County fans react as Rhian Brewster signs after Sheffield United exit
Derby targeted Brewster after his contract at Sheffield United came to an end this summer, leaving the former Liverpool prospect as a free agent.
EFL Analysis revealed in July that Middlesbrough were interested in Brewster, but Eustace’s side have won the race for his signature.
Brewster’s 2024/25 Championship campaign concluded in heartbreak with the Blades, after losing the Championship play-off final to Sunderland.
Last season, the 25-year-old scored four goals and notched three assists in 42 Championship outings, taking his goal tally to nine in 119 games for the Blades.
After Derby announced the signing of Brewster on X, the Rams faithful reacted positively to the news.
One Derby fan said: “Brilliant signing”, as another added: “Statement signing”.
Another Derby fan posted: “Welcome Rhian! Exciting signing this one!”
A fourth fan said: “Risky signing but for free you can’t go wrong, also with how good Eustace is with improving players it could come a brilliant signing with time”.
Another Derby fan added: “If Eustace trusts him so do I”, as one Rams fan said: “Great option for either wings or a 10, very sensible and no risk deal!”
A seventh Derby fan outlined: “A great bit of business. A player with something to prove.”
Brewster certainly has ‘something to prove’ at Derby next season, given his lacklustre career goal record since his breakout Championship campaign on loan at Swansea City in the second half of the 2019/20 season.

John Eustace must help Rhian Brewster silence doubters at Derby County
Brewster earned a Champions League winners’ medal with Liverpool, after being an unused substitute in their 2-0 win over Tottenham in the 2019 final.
In the following season, the Englishman was loaned out to Swansea in the second tier, where he scored 11 goals in 22 Championship appearances.
After being deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, Brewster joined the Blades in 2020 for a reported fee of £23.5m in a deal which Liverpool held a buy-back option of £40m that expired in June 2023.
| Club name | Games | Goals |
| Liverpool | 4 | 0 |
| Swansea City (loan) | 22 | 11 |
| Sheffield United | 119 | 9 |
Considering that Brewster’s highest-ever league goal tally for Sheffield United came last season, with just four Championship goals, the 25-year-old has a big point to prove in the 2025/26 Championship.
The Rams faithful will be hoping that Eustace can work his magic and help Brewster rediscover the goalscoring form he exhibited at Swansea to vindicate the fans’ excitement over his signing.
