Many players have performed beyond their means in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt under the guidance of Danny Rohl’s management, but that is not true of each member of their first-team.
The Owls have thrived under Danny Rohl since his arrival at Hillsborough, but such improvement in their fortunes was always likely to attract interest from other sides, with Southampton keen on the Sheffield Wednesday manager.
Sheffield Wednesday have been in and around the play-off picture this season and find themselves in a promising position in the second tier table under Rohl.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 11 | 35 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 56 | 48 | 8 | 48 | |
| 12 | 34 | 11 | 12 | 11 | 34 | 34 | 0 | 45 | |
| 13 | 35 | 12 | 9 | 14 | 47 | 56 | -9 | 45 | |
| 14 | 35 | 11 | 11 | 13 | 41 | 45 | -4 | 44 | |
| 15 | 34 | 9 | 15 | 10 | 36 | 41 | -5 | 42 |
They remain only a handful of points off a spot in the top six, albeit with plenty of traffic between them and the final spaces available inside the play-offs after defeat at home to high-flying Sunderland on Friday evening.

Svante Ingelsson backed for Sheffield Wednesday improvement next season
Sheffield Wednesday fans were really excited about Svante Ingelsson when he signed in the summer, but it’s fair to say that it has so far been a very mixed season for the Swede.
The former Hansa Rostock midfielder joined the club as a free agent and Ingelsson impressed on his Sheffield Wednesday debut against Plymouth Argyle on the opening day, showcasing his physical traits and ball-carrying ability in midfield during a 4-0 thumping of Wayne Rooney’s side.
However, that has since proved to be his best game for Rohl’s side. Ingelsson has been in and out of the XI all season and struggled for rhythm.
| Statistics | Svante Ingelsson (2024/25) |
| Games (starts) | 27 (12) |
| Minutes | 1,389 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 3 |
In his last start, Ingelsson assisted Callum Patterson’s header against Sunderland, playing 85 minutes of the game in the process. Despite defeat, it showed positive signs of life to Wednesday supporters and that the quality he possesses is evident, even if it is inconsistent.
EFL expert, Dom Howson, has explained that patience is required with Ingelsson, who he believes is likely to have more of an impact next season in a blue and white shirt.
Howson said: “We have seen flashes of what Svante Ingelsson can do at Sheffield Wednesday. Like the team, he has struggled for consistency. Think Ingelsson should be cut some slack. It was never going to be easy adapting to a new club, new league etc. Could well be we see the best of him next year.”

Danny Rohl’s verdict on Svante Ingelsson
Per The Star, Rohl spoke back in December with honesty about the 26-year-old, explaining: “For Svante, it’s a new league. It’s a new manager. I think his positions is between six, eight, and ten, and sometimes he travels all over the pitch.
“We know what we get from him: a physical, strong side, powerful deep runs, different profile.
“Look for example, when he played against Norwich, he did a fantastic job, because the task was working against the ball, and he could bring his strengths in.
“In other games, you think you have more ball possession, and the spaces are tighter and smaller, then maybe for him, it’s not always the best game.
“For him it’s now, keep going. He’s improved. He’s a great character. He worked hard. He takes this as a challenge.”
He is listed as a player that primarily plays through the middle of the pitch. However, in the Bundesliga 2 last time out, he primarily appeared on the left-hand side of the midfield for Hansa, while his utility-man status is unlikely to be helping at Wednesday in the meantime.
It’s unclear how large his role will be next season, irrespective of whether Rohl remains in charge of the Owls, but it is likely he is still a part of their plans given the lack of investment from controversial Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri.
