ITV have announced the first EFL and Carabao Cup fixtures they will broadcast in the first half of the season.

The EFL season is set to start this weekend when games kick off in League One and League Two, while the Championship will begin the following week.

Meanwhile, the first round of the Carabao Cup has already been drawn, with it set to take place across August 12 and 13.

Fans of clubs involved in the EFL will be looking forward to making their way to stadiums once again; however, for those who may not be able to make it in person, they will be hoping their club is chosen to be broadcast on TV.

Now, ITV have announced six fixtures they will be broadcasting on free-to-air TV, from the 20 they will show across the season, 10 from both the EFL and the Carabao Cup.

ITV to broadcast the Steel City Derby

Arguably the biggest fixture to be chosen by ITV to be broadcast on free-to-air TV will be the Steel City Derby between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

The broadcaster will be hopeful fans tune in to watch the historic rivalry between two sides who are currently experiencing different fortunes at present.

A Carabao Cup fixture between Sheffield United and Birmingham City will be the first game that is broadcast by ITV this season, when the two face each other at St. Andrews.

Meanwhile, there will be two other significant derbies being shown on ITV before New Years in 2026, as it will broadcast Norwich City against Ipswich Town and the south coast derby between Southampton and Portsmouth.

EFL broadcasting deal for the 2025/26 season

As part of the continued deal between Sky Sports and ITV, the broadcaster will give UK football fans the chance to watch free-to-air coverage of select Carabao Cup and EFL matches.

A total of 20 matches will be broadcast by ITV in the 2025/26 season, made up of 10 Carabao Cup ties and 10 EFL selections.

This means Sky Sports will see over 1,000 games from 1,891 matches across the EFL, Carabao Cup, and Vertu Trophy broadcast live throughout the season.
