Watford are preparing for the upcoming Championship season, with there being lofty ambitions within the club as they look to be in the conversation for the play-off race this campaign.

This has seen the club busy in the summer transfer market as they look to build a squad to compete at the top end of the Championship.

Watford sacked Tom Cleverley after falling short last term, and the Hornets replaced the now-Plymouth Argyle boss with Paulo Pezzolano.

Within the Uruguayan’s first weeks in post, Watford have signed several players to pad Pezzolano’s squad out with quality.

However, the club will need to also keep hold of their more talented players to aid their push for the top six of the Championship.

Roma ‘keen’ to bring in Watford’s Tom Dele-Bashiru

The importance of Tom Dele-Bashiru has grown over the past few seasons while at the Hornets, and this has garnered attention from clubs in Serie A.

As per information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that Roma are ‘keen’ to bring Dele-Bashiru to the Italian capital and have made contact with Watford.

It is understood they are not the only Italian club to have made contact with Watford, with both Parma and Cremonese also enquiring about the midfielder.

Dele-Bashiru is likely facing an exit from the English club due to the sustained interest from Italy.

Why Dele-Bashiru may want a move to Roma

A move to Italy and Serie A may be incredibly beneficial for Tom Dele-Bashiru if his career trajectory follows a similar path to his brother Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Fisayo moved to Lazio last season after joining from Hatayspor; however, previously he played for Sheffield Wednesday.

Since he moved abroad, Fisayo has featured for the Nigerian national team on seven occasions, with international football possibly being an ambition of Tom’s too.

The factor of moving to Rome to be closer to family may also be an important factor to take into consideration for this transfer from Tom Dele-Bashiru, as it would make his transition into another country and league slightly easier.

A move to Roma may also be considered more glamourous than playing at Vicarage Road, with the Italian giants likely to be playing European football for the foreseeable future due to the historic nature of the club and the three competitions they could compete in, being another draw for Dele-Bashiru.
