Sheffield Wednesday’s issues under Dejphon Chansiri are coming close to breaking point, and with less than two weeks until the season begins, the campaign is already being labelled as a ‘write-off’.
Sheffield Wednesday kick off their 2025/26 Championship campaign in less than a fortnight, where they will travel to recently relegated Leicester City.
Whilst the majority of Championship clubs have prepared extensively throughout the summer with a carefully curated pre-season schedule, mixed with new signings, Sheffield Wednesday have had neither.
Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has overseen financial difficulties at the club, and that has led to pre-season preparations being significantly hampered.
One EFL expert has even suggested that the season is already a ‘write-off’ for one reason.

Why Sheffield Wednesday are already written off for the 2025/26 Championship season
Sheffield Wednesday’s summer has been full of turmoil, and following a series of first-team departures, no supporters could be confident that the sales won’t continue.
There is nothing to be positive about at the club, and that is highlighted by the Second Tier Podcast, where they could not stick to the objective of the video and name one Sheffield Wednesday player who could make a difference. Instead, they honed in on the lingering concerns tha face the club, particularly regarding the season ahead.
“Sheffield Wednesday fans just repeatedly say they don’t care about this season because it’s just a write-off,” said Ryan Dilks.
“We’ve never had a club prepare for a season as disastrously as this. It’s not even preparation really, is it? It’s just kind of damage limitation at this stage.
“The big concern is obviously going to be, if Chansiri is at the moment playing hard ball when it comes to selling the club, it’s going to be even more to sell even more difficult to sell it if Wednesday are destined to be playing in League One next season.
“At the moment, it’s looking pretty difficult to see them staying up in the current state.”
Owls fans have every right to be pessimistic this summer
Every day and week that goes by, things appear to go from bad to worse for Sheffield Wednesday. The current situation at the club appears to only have one solution, and that is for Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club. Unfortunately, it is easier said than done.
Chansiri is adamant on his £100m price-tag to sell Sheffield Wednesday, isolating any potential investors from purchasing the club. It is clear that Sheffield Wednesday should not be anywhere near Chansiri’s valuation, so the current concerns are set to happen indefinitely.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters have nothing to look forward to this season – no signings, nothing. They have not even had the chance to see the team in pre-season, with all first-team games being played behind closed doors.
