Billy Sharp and Jordan Rhodes will now be accompanied by another English Football League striker in the 200 goal club.

Rhodes retired from football last week, bringing an end to his 18-year association with the EFL. He bettered Wayne Rooney’s goal record across England’s top four leagues since the 2004/05 rebrand with 220 in total.

Sharp, meanwhile, has bagged 260 and counting, adding another to his list on Saturday as Doncaster Rovers beat Bradford City 3-1 in League One.

But it was another strike elsewhere on Saturday that led to a third member joining Sharp and Rhodes’ exclusive club of scoring over 200 goals in the EFL.

James Collins has scored 200 goals across the Championship, League One and League Two

Since the 2004/05 rebrand, only Rhodes and Sharp had hit the 200 goal mark across England’s second, third and fourth tiers.

That was until James Collins scored two goals in five minutes for Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon as they drew 2-2 with Wigan Athletic.

The former Aston Villa youth player’s strikes marked his 200th and 201st goals in the EFL as he surpassed the impressive landmark.

He is now 19 behind Rhodes’ tally of 220 and 53 off of Sharp’s 254 goals.

Who has James Collins scored for in the EFL?

Collins started his career with Villa but started his EFL goalscoring while on loan at Burton Albion in 2010.

He stayed in the fourth tier with Shrewsbury Town before progressing to League One with Swindon Town.

A short spell with Hibernian in Scotland in 2013/14 was followed by a return to Shrewsbury, before moves to Northampton Town, Crawley Town and Luton Town. He rose to the Championship with the Hatters but dropped back to League One with Derby County in 2022.

He left the Rams, who got promoted to the second tier, for League One Lincoln in January and has scored 15 goals in 30 appearances already.
