The summer transfer window has shut, and clubs in England are now reviewing their performance over the last few months, including Derby County.

The Rams made 13 signings before Monday’s 7pm deadline, with Ben Brereton Diaz the last to arrive at Pride Park.

Kenzo Goudmijn looks to be heading to Go Ahead Eagles, while Ben Osborn and Jake Rooney have both moved to League One on loan for the rest of the season, as John Eustace finalises his 25-man squad.

Free agents were required by Derby in the winter, as injuries hit them hard. However, it is not a problem this season, yet supporters will be keen to see how one former player does as he joins the PFA free agent squad.

Former Derby County ace Ravel Morrison joins up with the PFA free agent squad

It’s been three years since Ravel Morrison left the Rams to join up with Wayne Rooney at DC United, and while he had success at Pride Park, he’s found it tough since leaving.

He had been playing his football in the UAE for Precision FC, featuring alongside other former Derby players like Jamie Ward and Ben Pringle, but it now appears that he is looking to make his name in England once again.

He has been added to the PFA free agent squad, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga also training at the camp, while Connor Wickham has also been finding fitness with them.

Now, Morrison may be looking to find a team in the EFL to call home once again, and at 32, this is perhaps one of his last chances to do so.

Ravel Morrison could have gone on to great things at Manchester United

The midfielder came through the ranks at Manchester United, playing at the club at an incredible time when the likes of Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney were all on the books.

While both Morrison and Pogba were youngsters at the time, his former manager at Derby, Rooney, saw something great in the Jamaica international.

He said (via: The Times): “I remember watching Ravel Morrison thinking he had everything required for a player in his position. He was brilliant. He was confident. He nutmegged Nemanja Vidic three times in the space of a minute in one training game.

“But he struggled with lifestyle and his environment, which was sad for him – because I saw Paul Pogba come through, Jesse Lingard, all these players and Ravel was better than any of them by a country mile.

“He’s proof that you can’t escape the fact there are guidelines every player has to obey in professional football. Some players live right on the edge of them but stick just inside and still succeed.

“Sir Alex Ferguson used to say, the hardest thing in life is to work hard every day. Forget all your ability, strip everything back: if you can work hard every day, in whatever job you do, you’ll be successful.”
